"Freezing things in place- but that's high-level magic! In fact, no one I know has been able to pull something like that off!" He was impressed, but was worried that she might not be able to control it.

"I suppose you'll have to stay behind me while we're fighting. That is, unless you have some secret martial arts training or something."

Groaning, she gave him another irritable look. "I don't need to stand behind anyone, buddy. I'm your partner, not a damsel in distress!"

"I didn't mean it like that, honest!" Facepalming, he regained his composure and tried to formulate the right words.

"Look. I'm a swordsman." He drew a sword to demonstrate his point. "My role is on the front lines. You seem to be a mage, meaning I should be backing you up and making sure they don't disrupt your casting. But if you really want to go down, please. Be my guest. I just hope you have really good reflexes, because otherwise you're going to go down fast."

"Excuse you, Mr. I-Wear-Headbands-Like-A-Garage-Band-Reject! I do have good reflexes and I do think you should go play with your sword on the battlefield while I use my magic." spat the pinkhaired girl. "Jeez. I bet that sword's not even a real one! It's probably made of foam."

"Not a- oh, just you watch!" Storming out, he returns a short while later with a two-by-four. Managing to balance it out juuust right so that it stood on its own, Ashton drew both swords and took a deep breath.

Leaves began to spin around the wood, and suddenly Ashton dashed in that direction, disappearing from sight! When he returned to visibility, he was on the opposite side of the wood, re-sheathing his swords as the two-by-four split into twelve even pieces.

"There. I am a professional swordsman, thank you very much. I'll not have you doubting my skills."

She had to admit, that was very impressive. Maybe her partner wasn't going to be a total dud after all. "That wasn't half bad." Blinking, she approached one of the pieces of wood that littered the ground now and picked it up.

"'Not half bad?' I dare you do to better!"

Ashton looked down at the pile of wood Tami was now messing with. "Ugh... I'll have to clean that up, or the janitors will have my heads..."

"Don't worry!"

Taking a deep breath, she got ready to attack the wood. "Tornado Strike!" A funnel made of water appeared, washing away the piece and its scraps, but not too far from where they stood.

Ashton just stared at the soggy wood, while Gyoro snickered and Ururun sighed.

"...I could have just picked them up, you know."

Face flushed, she folded her arms. "Quiet, all of you!"

Wearing the red jacket his brother gave him, Alphonse stood and waited for Rally Cure to approach him. It would probably be a good idea to get to know each other before the match began and, perhaps, form a strategy of some kind.

"Alphonse Elric?" Rally wondered vaguely. It seemed like an interesting name, so perhaps his partner was someone strong and impressive, he thought. The last name actually sounded familiar from the train, but he didn't know exactly who it was.

In a way, he spoke his partner's name aloud not just so that he could remember it, but just in case they happened to be within earshot.

Rally was actually standing very close to Al, but it seemed he didn't see him. Waving an arm, he tried to get his attention. "Over here!" He called out.

He definitely noticed that, and looked around to see who it was. When he saw that it was a young boy, he smiled sheepishly. "I'm Rally Cure. Are you... Alphonse?"

"Yes, I am. It's nice to meet you, Rally." Extending his hand, he waited for him to shake it. "I guess this means we're partners now."
