The news has seemed fairly dull as of late, little did I know that it was really leading up to some crazy shit going on in the world. I'm struggling to remember to ask questions, such as "what is the slant? Who is the interested party writing this? Can I trust the source? Research the facts..." and so on.

The problem with a voucher system is that it means successful schools get favoured - which on the surface sounds good. But if you have a school that caters brilliantly for 1000 pupils and suddenly 3000 people want to bring their vouchers there, it creates competition for places in those schools. The schools then develop 'entry criteria' by which they choose which 1/3 of applicants will get a place in their school

You know girl, I really hate to have to read up on these things too...but you're totally right. If/when I vote, then I need to be well informed in that moment of casting my vote(s).

why is education such a mess here in the USA? why are the majority of our doctors/engineers/etc foreign-born? not that i have anything against newcomers into this country...but i think asians have the greatest wealth now (searches for online stat) when compared to other groups.

the particular article i read factored Indian persons (India) into said group called 'Asian.' I'll find it for you if you want 8D

why is education such a mess here in the USA? why are the majority of our doctors/engineers/etc foreign-born?

There are lots of thoughts on the when, why and how America got to this point. Some of it is more credible than others. I'd suggest that our school system really started to fall apart in the 1950's. I'll spend a day in the not too distant future outlining my hows and whys with some lending authority to back it up.

Hit me up with your thoughts on under-employment and any other topic that tickles your noodle. I am all about exploring and might learn a thing or three from your questions, research and opinions.
