Cat Help

Five years ago when I moved to Japan I ended up taking in a stray kitten. Now I am leaving Japan to move to the UK and am unable to take him with me. Is anyone interested in adopting a cat or have any ideas about what to do? There seem to be a very limited number of shelters in Japan and I don't want to just put him on the street. He is very ( Read more... )

Where in Japan do you live? Listing that might help people figure out whether or not they can take him in.

Good luck in finding him a home, too! I wish I could take him in, but my landlady comes by too often to make it feasible to hide a cat. :(

I live in Shiinamachi (near Ikebukuro). Right now I have it worked out that a no kill shelter in the Tokyo area is going to take him. But he does need a more permanent home so let me know if you think it will work out.

Wow, that's quite a coincidence!! I have looked into all the procedures and it's quite complicated. I did start them with my cat, but not soon enough to be able to take him to the UK. It really takes 7 or 8 months to get it all done. You can't just have a rabies vaccine, you have to have a microchip put in first. Then you have to wait a month for a booster shot. Then you have to wait six more months to make sure the animal doesn't really have rabies. And of course, all of this is completely pointless because Japan is a rabies free country! If I was taking him to the US it would be so easy...

I live in a cat friendly apartment and have one cat but I also signed in my lease that I would only have one cat. He is definitely a cutie though. My cat could use a playmate but she's also always been by herself since I got her last summer so I don't think she'd do well with another cat.

Hmm... she might be okay eventually, but there are always dominance struggles in the beginning.
