I see dudes read a lot of weird porn or action novels or comic books in many cities - but there is no comparing any of that to the consistent, nay dependable influx of pleasant women reduced to tears for some reason or another.
(I was an art student also studying Japanese after having read way too much about the culture before going there. I found everything I read to be true some but not all of the time.)

Me too! I'm really surprised how many of the stereotypes that I saw in manga/anime are actually true here. I figured fantasy would add something, but in the end, not really. o.o
1) Staring (at me, openly, without shame) 2) "HELLO!!!" (from every random person that passes me) 3) Small (clothes!!! and people) 4) Doujinshi (One of my favorite things about life here =D Porn=YAY!) 5) Miscommunciation (Every day ^^;)
Mine sound so negative! (except #4) But those things are things that I experience and think about every single day..
1. Kotatsu (boy, I could use one now) 2. Tatami (nothing like the smell of fresh reeds in the morning) 3. Typhoon (a fifth season) 4. Shrine (the tiny ones in the rice fields where a bike trekker can spend a dry night) 5. Yaki-imo!!! (from the back of a truck-mounted oven)
