I throw this topic out because I recently got a package sent to my "permanent address" nearly an hour and a half away from uni. The package, being entirely in Japanese was eligible to my family. I got it today and saw that it was from my host mom! She sent me an (and I didn't even know how much I missed it!) and some おいしいそうお茶 ( Read more... )

My host mom was really nice, even though my host sister and I didn't get along so well (we had to share a room~)

One time, I woke up with a sore throat and stuffy nose, and I didn't feel good at all. I didn't know how to communicate that I didn't feel good, because it was shortly after I got there, and I just wanted to go home and be with my mom. (Hehe, you know how it feels)

So I just started crying, and my host mom came, and looked at me, and told me to stay in bed. I fell back asleep, and when I awoke, there was one of those hot lemon drinks you can by, along with some nodo ame, and a small variety pack of sandwhiches from 7-11.

She then messaged me later to make sure I ate everything, and she brought me some tuna maki, and came home and watched TV with me at lunch. :)

It made me really really happy and comfortable. I miss my host family.

Awww, that's so wonderful!! I think Japanese moms are REALLY good at taking care of people and just making people feel welcome in general.

One time I had a really upset stomach because I think I ate some undercooked shabu shabu and I got home and I was like, "I feel bad. I just don't feel well. It's my stomach, I think..." and my host mom made me go sit under the kotatsu and she brought me some hot tea and it just relaxed the pain away.

Wow, I feel so emotional just sitting here thinking about it.

I stayed with a co-worker's parents for 2 weeks while I was looking for a new place to live and when my 'host mom' found out I loved persimmons, she left some cut up for me every morning before I went to work. Reminded me a lot of my own mom and how she did so much for my bro and i when we were growing up!

oh, and when I found my own place, I had my Mom buy them a framed photo of the Northern Lights as a thank you, as they were totally obsessed by "aurora"
