And I guess when the time comes to renew, I'll just see what happens! :)

I will ask my mom to see if there is a box to mark... From what she said, I think you have to provide more info if you say you can't make it...

But I do hope just by saying "I'm out of the country" will be enough. Thanks!

Yeah, one week before I moved from Missouri to Hungary, I received a jury summons. I checked the box saying that I was moving outside the court's jurisdiction, gave them my new address, and they sent me a letter a few weeks later saying that I was excused from jury duty.

Don't know anything about CT, but you have to renew your DL in person in Illinois (where I live now). Apparently they have these new Homeland Security requirements and you have to appear in person and furnish like 3 different forms of ID every time you renew.

Oh, I sure hope by saying I'm out of the country they excuse me from jury duty. What they say now, is that I can postpone it up to 10 months... but I'm hoping, like I say, I can be excused completely.

About my DL, I renewed it once by mail already... I think in CT it's still possible.

Thanks!

They have to excuse you. You cannot legally sit on a jury for a jurisdiction of which you are not a resident. You're no longer a "peer" of that community. And you are most definitely not a resident. ;-)

What exactly are you using your CT driver's license for? Usually in the European countries, you are given one year to get a local driver's license and after that, your foreign driver's license is invalid for use in your country of residence. Are you using it when you go back to the states? You're better off using your Spanish driver's license in that case. I can see cases where it's useful to have a state driver's license for things like writing checks when you go home, but for actually driving, it's pretty useless.

I'm not using my license at all right now -- you're absolutely right that it's useless here in Europe!
But I mainly want to hang on to if for the future, if I ever move back to the US... you just never know!

(I have to take the spanish driving test still to be able to drive here...)

Thanks :)

I have a Massachusetts drivers licence. I have been able to renew it using my parents' address (and although it expired last year, I am able to renew it for up to four years, so will do so in person later this year).

I've been summoned for jury duty a few times. Each time, my mother tells them that I'm living out of the country. It seems to work.
