I don't know if any of you are familiar with applying to universities abroad directly, however I know there are a few that are expats because of educational opportunities. In May I applied with Moscow State University. They told me they would contact me with information with my invitation, however I leave at the end of August and I've still haven't ( Read more... )

you'd better worry, try to make a phone call to them...
i am russian and I can say that sometimes russian people can mix something concerning documents..

Last year I was going to study to Italy and italian University messed everything too.. I had to make a dozen of phone calls fixing issues that they sent all paper documents to a wrong address and then that they accomodated me in another campus, which is located in completely different city :)

Typically, it is your responsibility to obtain your student visa, not the university's.

Contact the Russian embassy or consulate in your home country, and they will tell you the appropriate visa forms to request, complete, and return to the embassy. (You can do it in person if you live in a city where consular services are offered.) You will probably also need to submit a copy of your acceptance letter to Moscow State University, along with proof that you can financially support yourself while studying in Moscow (bank statement showing you have X amount in your account, or scholarship or financial aid award letter, or notarized affidavit from family stating they will support you.)

When I applied for a student visa to Hungary, I had to also send them my U.S. passport (!!!) and a visa processing fee of about $90. Fortunately, all of my paperwork and my passport came back to me within about 3 weeks.

Hope this helps!

Thank you. I should have said invitation, that's what I mean. I can't get my visa before I get the invitation and I still haven't gotten it. I don't have an acceptance letter either, all of it was done via internet. It's all really difficult. I register, they should send me invitation to get my visa, and then when I get there I pay for all my tution and everything.

Thanks again.

Why are you choosing to study in Russia?

I would like to travel, but education is important to me. My father brought me to Russia when I was little, so Russia lives somewhere in my heart. I couldn't see myself not living in Russia first before I travel Europe. It easy for me to get an education because of price and I really don't have to apply like six months before the year starts. I'm going to apply to other universities in Russia if I don't hear from them before the 21 days limit is up, but I was really heart set on going to Moscow State.

Thanks.

you should be worried, because you've fucked up

get them on the phone asap, and make them fax the letter

once you have it, getting a visa doesn't need to take that long
last one i got from the russian embassy took 2 days (and an extra ~$300)
you'll probably have to go to the consulate in nyc, but you don't have much choice

You should call them anyway to make sure they don't lose your application.
