It makes you VERY BRAVE! Not stupid! What's stupid about expanding your horizons? I am in China teaching English. I came here alone (I am 22, and engaged, yes I left my fiance for a year! haha). With no program. No skills in Chinese. Just here to have a good ol' time getting a crash course in humanity, as I say it :). Oh i don't have teaching experience either. Only a love for language. I think taking 4 years of spanish and 5 years of french gave me enough skill to teach a language
( ... )
Thanks for the welcome, and the reassurance. I studied in Russia for 6 weeks this summer and it was the most amazing and humiliating experience of my life.
But I told myself I'm coming back for all the blunders and screw-ups, because I love it there. I also have a Russian boyfriend that I haven't seen for 6 months. I can't imagine how you managed to leave your fiance behind for a year, it's so hard!
You seem pretty awesome, so I've added you to my friends list :)
I like how you say amazing and humiliating. I never thought about that adjective. It IS pretty humiliating being a foreigner, and I am sure it's far worse being a student! And it's good that you are going back FOR the blunders and screw ups. It makes you a stronger and better person! I am glad you will see your boyfriend! That will be great! I say to myself, it's only 11 months not 11 years, and that' show I get through it. I also talk to him every day on MSN voice messenger. THAT HELPS A LOT. Ahh Russian men are cute. I love how they speak English...their accent...I love accents...I think the Argentenian-English accent is number one in sexy, then Russian-English. Then Irish...soe people say French accents are sexy. On girls yes but not on guys...
I agree with you on the accents - French men sound awful, but Russian guys, wow. I was on tour with a Russian band last year for a week and a half....talk about hearing sexy accents all day and night!!
I'm 26, Canadian and have been living in China for the past 2 years.. I'm fluent in the language now, which is great, but I'm ready to move on.
While here I met (on livejournal) an amazing man from England.. who sold everything and moved here to be with me. We're now engaged and expecting our first child. He moved here a year ago.
We're moving to England (I've never been to europe) to have the baby in 20 days :)
When you decide that the world is your home, so many doors and windows just fly open.. :)
Good luck to you..
One of my students is from Russia and she's absolutely amazing :)
Well, Im a 19 year old Russian studying in Britain and currently living in China for a year. throughout last 4 years (thats when I left Moscow) I've had quite a few shocking experiences (especially in China :). From what I can say, it won't be that difficult for you, since Russians are quite easy going people, open socially, and friendly (even if they dont look like it sometimes;).
You're very brave! I wish you good luck! I left for Russia alone when I was 18. I met a boy on the internet, we talked and then I moved there. Though I already sort of had a connection with Russia it was still a fairly brave move on my part especially now that I look back at it. I didn't live in Piter or Moscow though (I was in Krasnoyarsk which is way over in Siberia).
If you have any questions I can give you my experiances (I've lived there so I understand life and I had a baby there so if you ever get pregnant and want to deliver... LOL, etc). Though you might not want to hear my opinions on Russian university! It's not that positive.
I am prepared to be very disappointed with the Russian university system, don't you worry! My boyfriend is a third year uni student and tells me all the horror stories.
But it should be interesting.
I can't believe you moved to Siberia at 18 because of a boy on the internet :) I'm glad it worked out for you, though. I'm adding you!
