Hello from Taiwan

Hi everyone. I came across the community and thought I should introduce myself a little. I'm originally from Gibraltar and am currently living in Hsinchu, Taiwan, thanks to my partner getting contracted out to work at the Taiwanese branch of his engineering firm. Gibraltar, that's a TINY place! I read about it in Paul Theroux's The Pillars of Hercules. I hear there are apes there, and the place is mostly a rock just south of Spain.

How was learning Chinese? I want to do it!

It sure is small...it was a bit of a shock when I moved to the UK to do my university studies! I do miss it as there's a real feeling that people know people, though this isn't always a good thing.

Anyway, learning Chinese can be hard if you want to learn it seriously (ie. learn how to read and write) but the speaking element can be quite easy once you've mastered the tones. There should be a few good websites around to get you started but the best thing would probably be to sign up for a class or find someone who will teach you as this would help your speaking a lot more than any website will ever do. :)
