"the subject of disrespectful comments pertaining to my nationality, putting up with stupid jokes about "the average american", etc. i am on both sides of the fence because on one hand, i agree that america is a big country that has a lot of problems (okay, a helluva lot of big problems that affect a lot of people), but on the other hand, europe is a big continent with a lot of problems too"

Couldn't have said it better. I don't think it's just Europe that does that. And like you it's my biggest complaint (and I am not even an American!). People just look at me weird when I bring up that point.
