Kris swiped a last curl of hair on his page and set down his worn, auburn charcoal. He held the drawing away from him and cocked his head to the side. The dream boy's smiling eyes stared back. For the past two weeks, those eyes and that face were the only thing Kris felt motivated to draw: the angel boy that filled his nights and laughed his name while he slept. Kris could recall every detail; the soft swoop of his jaw, the depth of his dimple.

If I can't have him in reality, Kris thought. I might as well have him on paper. Satisfied with his 67th drawing of his muse, he placed it on the grass, propped against the tree root he leaned on, and moved to clean up his art supplies
