definitely sounds different compared to exodus. i like monster lucky one cloud 9 and stronger so far. the rest i need to loop first before i have an opinion
Lucky One is such a jam. One of those songs that I could listen whenever and feel like bopping. Also like Monster, Artificial Love, Cloud 9 and Stronger. The others need a few listens. One thing I get the feeling about several of the songs is that they're not terribly singing focused. Like the producer comes through waaaay more than Exo's vocals or a melody. Maybe it's that the hooks/choruses aren't really memorable to me? Feels kind of weird and I feel a bit more disconnected to those tracks.
I totally agree! There aren't many standout melodies and the production is more prominent. Not really my thing, because I like songs that are more ~musical~ if you know what I mean.
Yeah, there were some really good melodies that came out of Exodus that have instant recall and that I liked right off the bat. Not as much here, more growers I'm guessing.
this comment is SO interesting to me because i thought that the vocal execution on this album is noticeably head and shoulders above anything EXO have ever done. the variation, harmony, emoting - just superior to anything i've ever heard on previous albums. and the production that overlaid that was so crisp and well-balanced i was blown away. but i also know what you mean about the hooks being less singable, i think the overall genre/musical influences and direction for exo was moving away from the boppy, sing-along-type pop music.
