Chapter 65
Of Bike Rides and Dates

The scenery passed by in a blur and the car was settled in comfortable silence with the radio turned down low. Baekhyun didn’t know where to keep his eyes at so he settled with turning his head in the direction of his window. Chanyeol’s fingers on the wheel fidgeted and tapped as the anxious giant kept flanking and looking over at the quiet male beside him.

As if sensing himself being watched, Baekhyun turned his head to fidgeting driver. “Keep your eyes on the road, idiot,” he mumbled as his eyes moved to Chanyeol’s hands. “What are you nervous for?”

Chanyeol snorted. “I’m not nervous. Just excited.”

“Mhm,” Baekhyun hummed as he leaned back. “Like you’ve never been on a date before.”

“Not since god knows when,” Chanyeol retorted. “I just wish I was a little more creative with coming up with something. I haven’t been on my game.”

“I’m not expecting you to take me to the moon or anything.”

“I know,” Chanyeol said, slumping his shoulders. “But what are you expecting?”

“I don’t know. A lunch date.”

“Do you really think I’m that boring?” Chanyeol said, giving Baekhyun a quick look. “No. We’re not going on a boring lunch date.”

“Lunch dates aren’t boring.”

“Lunch dates are for people who don’t have time to date,” Chanyeol argued. “You and I, we’re not that type of couple. See, I don’t know about you, but I’d be willing to put everything at work on hold just to go do stuff with you.”

“Please don’t,” Baekhyun said with a small laugh, rubbing his forehead with a hand. “Don’t put things on hold just to go out and do things with me. Really. I don’t want you parents hating me for the sudden collapse of their company just because their son decided he wanted to hang out with his lover instead. They already don’t like me.”

Chanyeol raised a brow. He opened to mouth to ask why Baekhyun had remarked about his parents disliking him, but then remembered. Slanting his lips, Chanyeol sighed quietly. “I’ll hang out with you whenever I want. It’s fine. I’m not going to run the company bankrupt. If I did, I wouldn’t have an income. Then where would I get the money to pay for our secret getaways?”

“But we don’t have secret getaways.”

“Not yet we don’t,” Chanyeol corrected. “But one day, I’m just gonna randomly drop by and take you away for a while. Where? Who knows. Probably somewhere isolated where no one can hear us-well, you. Where no one can hear you.”

“If you weren’t driving right now,” Baekhyun sighed, rolling his eyes, “I would take my hands and-”

“-Lean over and give me road head?”

Thinning his lips, Baekhyun settled with backhanding Chanyeol on the arm. “Idiot, you’d crash the car and kill us both.”

Chanyeol glanced over with a nonchalant grimace before something hit him. “Technically, you didn’t say no.”

Looking back out the window, Baekhyun shrugged. “Technically.”

“So technically, you could unzip my pants and do it.”

“How about we get through the day without any oral sex that may or may not end up with your car mangled against a tree,” Baekhyun said, compromising, “and then, when we get home, you can sit on the bed and pretend like you’re driving.”

“Will you sit on the bed with me and play along?” Chanyeol asked in the midst of laughing.

“Depends on how this date goes.”

If Sehun, who often took Luhan out to expensive and classy places that one would take a queen to, wait to see what Chanyeol had in store for his first date since forever, he would have face palmed himself at Chanyeol’s childish efforts. In Sehun’s world, a quirky date along the Han river was something he’d would never do if he was in Chanyeol’s sad, sad shoes. To him, things like that were simple-too simple. But, the difference between Chanyeol and Sehun went more than just their ideas for an ideal date. The difference lied in the fact that Chanyeol knew how Baekhyun was all about simple.

Coming up to a bike rental shop, Chanyeol looked around until he found one for two people that looked nice and not too flashy-since Baekhyun wasn’t much of a flashy person anyhow. But as he was about to pay for the rental hours, Baekhyun pulled out his own wallet at the same time.

“What are you doing?” Chanyeol asked as he eyed the smaller male next to him.

“Paying.”

Shaking his head, Chanyeol reached over and pushed Baekhyun’s wallet down, causing his date to look up at him. “No. I’ll do it.”

“Stop, I can-”

Sighing, Chanyeol walked over to the bike he picked out and strolled it to Baekhyun. “Here. Take it outside and wait for me.”

Even though he took the bike, Baekhyun continued to stare up at Chanyeol. “How about we split the-”

Seeing the waiting shopkeeper, Chanyeol let out a laugh, waving Baekhyun off. “Don’t mind him,” he said. “He’s just a little stubborn.” After handing over his credit card, Chanyeol leaned on the counter and turned his head to Baekhyun as he waited for the transaction to finish. “Yah, honey, get our bike outside. Make it look all nice and pretty.”

Baekhyun bit his lips, fighting the urge to hit Chanyeol for calling him endearing names in front of a storekeeper. Huffing and mumbling things under his breath, he started to take the bike outside. As he was moving, Chanyeol called out from behind him and made him stop.

“Don’t forget to pick out a helmet, vixen!”

Baekhyun whipped his head around; face all red. “Are you serious?”

“I wouldn’t want you to fall and hurt yourself,” Chanyeol said, smirking. When he got his card back, he thanked the man and left to join Baekhyun. “But you did spend an eternity on your hair, so…”

“I don’t normally spend that much time doing my hair,” Baekhyun muttered.

“I know,” Chanyeol grinned as he put his wallet away. “You did it just for me. Right?” When Baekhyun only gave him a blank look and tried to turn away, Chanyeol frowned. “Right?” he repeated, emphasizing the word. “Baek, you did it for me, r-”

“Mhm, yeah, yeah,” Baekhyun quickly said, trying to get away from the topic. “Just for you. Sure,” he mumbled, keeping his eyes down.

Chanyeol smiled, though Baekhyun wasn’t looking up to see it. Deciding to move on, Baekhyun went to the front to sit in the front seat, but when Chanyeol saw this, waved his hand and shook his head.

“I want you to take the back.”

“But I want the front…”

“And I don’t want you working yourself,” Chanyeol argued lightly. “I just want you to sit back and enjoy this.”

“But I want the front…” Baekhyun repeated with the same look in his eyes.

Hating himself for being stupidly weak, Chanyeol groaned as he moved to the back. “Fine,” he sighed as he threw a leg over and sat down. “But if you get tired, say someth-”

“Okay,” Baekhyun said, cutting him off as he tried to get on.

“Need help?” Chanyeol laughed.

“Go away,” Baekhyun huffed as he felt Chanyeol’s hands just brush against his waist, trying to keep him steady in order to help him. Once he was on, he looked back. “You can take your hands off now.”

“Aw…”

Glancing to his right, Baekhyun saw that the store keeper was watching them. “Come on. Let’s go. Feel me up later when no one’s watching.” Finding the pedals with one foot, Baekhyun gripped the handles. “Ready?”

“Yes, vixen, I’m ready.”

Ignoring Chanyeol’s attempt to fluster him, Baekhyun pushed off and got the bikes going. The first minute of riding was wobbly due to the fact that they bickered and had issues balancing themselves. The second minute went by more smoothly, except Chanyeol had to repeatedly try and counter Baekhyun’s pedaling after failing to get him to slow down. By the third minute, Baekhyun had his fun and settled for a pace that didn’t give Chanyeol such a heart attack.

Even though Chanyeol had said that lunch dates were for people who didn’t have time to date, he had deal with the fact that Baekhyun was going to get hungry. After minutes of urging Baekhyun to stop, Chanyeol eventually got Baekhyun to pull over. Leaning their bike on a nearby tree, Baekhyun made sure it stayed upright before joining Chanyeol.

They didn’t walk too far before they found a small stand. Baekhyun allowed Chanyeol to choose both their sandwiches, but was beaten to the punch when paying once again by the giant who quickly pulled out his card before Baekhyun could even reach for his wallet.

As they walked back to their bike with food and drinks, Baekhyun voiced out his opinion. “I think…” he started slowly, “you should let me pay for something.”

Chanyeol glanced down at him. “But I’m the one who asked you out. I should pay.” Just as Baekhyun was about to argue, Chanyeol leaned down and kissed him. “Just accept the fact that I’m gonna spoil you.”

Quirking his lips, Baekhyun rolled his eyes. “You’re treating me like I’m delicate.”

Chanyeol laughed and shoulder bumped him, swaying Baekhyun off to the side. “Oh, I know you’re not delicate. By the way you take a pounding, you’re anything but.”

Conversational topics came and went, stretching from topics like Chanyeol’s first time on the job to Baekhyun’s bizarre experiences in the foreign countries that he had often, but briefly visited. After a while of sitting under a tree with their food all gone, Chanyeol looked over and hesitantly asked, “Did you date anybody when we were separated?”

Baekhyun looked at him for a second, studying his face. “Do you really wanna know?”

Shrugging, Chanyeol tried to sound as if he was nonchalant. “Not really-but I do.”

After a second, Baekhyun sighed. “Yes-”

Chanyeol sucked in a breath and groaned, falling back on the grassy ground. “That hurt more than I thought it would,” he muttered.

“You asked, though…” Baekhyun replied softly.

“I know, I know,” Chanyeol said, waving him off. “I was asking for it. Don’t worry about me.”

“I have to worry about you,” Baekhyun said, crawling over to Chanyeol before sitting down again with his legs crossed. “You could start bawling.”

Chanyeol’s eyes moved over to him. “What do you mean I could start bawling? Why?” He paused. “Are you gonna share explicit details with me?”

Chuckling, Baekhyun shook his head. “No. I’ll just tell you that her name was Hyoyeon-business major, smart, nice, funny, and really pretty…”

“Did you…do anything?”

“Chanyeol, really,” Baekhyun sighed, leaning over to pick up a piece of grass out of Chanyeol’s hair. “Why’re you asking? You already look like a sad bum.”

“I’m a sad bum that wants to know,” Chanyeol justified, catching Baekhyun’s hand.

Slanting his lips, Baekhyun huffed. “No. We only dated for a few months and then we decided to just be friends.”

With his eyes lighting up, Chanyeol cracked a small smile. “Really?”

“Yeah, but it was a different story with my other ex-boyfr-”

“Yah,” Chanyeol muttered, squeezing Baekhyun’s hand. “You dated another guy, too?”

Laughing, Baekhyun squeezed back. “No, I didn’t. I was joking with you.”

Chanyeol gave him a look. “Your sense of humor sucks, honey.”

Baekhyun’s smile disappeared and he left go on Chanyeol’s hand. “And you’re dumb.”

“But we make a nice pair.”

“Sure we do,” Baekhyun snorted, getting on his knees to stand up. “Come on. Let’s go throw away our-”

Pulling Baekhyun back down on top of him, Chanyeol snaked his arm around the smaller male’s waist. “Say it. Say that we’re a nice pair.”

“We’re a nice pair…”

Chanyeol smirked. “Yes we are-”

“-We’re a nice pair of soon to be sex offenders for inappropriate behavior in public.”

Chanyeol turned his head off to the side. Then he let go and allowed the two of them to sit back up. Silence pursued for a while until Chanyeol mentioned, “We did have sex at a park once.”

Baekhyun looked over at him and scoffed. “It was in your car and it was dark outside. There was no one around to see.”

“Same thing. It was still public display of major affections.”

“Major…” Baekhyun repeated, mumbling.

Nodding, Chanyeol confirmed. “Major.”

Along the bike lane was an attraction that allowed for people in pairs to rend a small boat that could be maneuvered easily. When Baekhyun looked back and saw the look on Chanyeol’s face, he argued even before there was a case. Unable to be convinced, Chanyeol forced their bike over and dragged Baekhyun along, letting him mutter and mumble things as they picked out color matching life jackets.

Despite the look on his face and constant complaining about getting sick, Baekhyun ended up secretly enjoying the rocky ride and Chanyeol’s painful, but oddly lovely, singing.

After much begging and countless pleas, Chanyeol was able to coerce Baekhyun into moving in with him a month later. Putting the last of Baekhyun’s boxes into their apartment, Chanyeol put his hands on his waist and craned his neck. “You didn’t even have that many boxes and yet they were still really heavy.”

Baekhyun laughed. “I was trying to minimize.”

Chanyeol’s eyes drawled over to Baekhyun as a smirk crawled on his face. Stepping forward, he walked over to Baekhyun, who was bent down trying to open one of the boxes. Wrapping his arms around Baekhyun’s waist, Chanyeol nuzzled the curve of his neck from the back.

“Good thing your man’s pretty strong.”

“My man, huh?”

Smirking, Chanyeol held him tighter. “Yes, vixen. Your man, your lover, and your friend.” Wanting to see Baekhyun’s face, Chanyeol turned him around.

After staring in Chanyeol’s eyes for a few silent seconds, Baekhyun said, “All because I thought your locker was Sehun's.”

With a wide grin, Chanyeol cupped Baekhyun’s face and kissed him gently. Then with their forehead against one another’s, Chanyeol smiled in content, causing Baekhyun to shyly smile back. “And that was the best mistake you ever made, vixen. The best mistake you ever made.”
