Before anyone starts up, no this is not going under a cut, because I want people to read it.
I am sickened with the response of the Australian public to the Schappelle Corby trial.
I don't know whether or not the girl is innocent. And neither do you. We haven't heard all the evidence out here, and our media reports have hardly been unbiased. We

You already know why; it's easier than just accepting the situation. It's an outlet for their anger and hurt.
I was completely sickened by those who rang up numerous talk back shows to declare that following the sentencing, they were regretting having given aid to Indonesia following the tsunami.
In total agreeance. People lose sight of the big picture so easily. This is so...broken minded.

and as I said to a co-worker, why is she deemed to be so damned innocent by people who don't even know half the facts of the case? Because she can cry prettily for the cameras?
It doesn't matter if she's innocent or guilty. What matters is that she was caught with a shitload of drugs in her bag, and was found guilty under indonesian law. Deal with it. Turning around and claiming that indonesian courts are wrong because they're Indonesian is just fucking stupid, and smacks of imperialism. How dare these grubby colonials prosecute a White Woman??
How is her situation any different from when we threw that Saudi guy in the slammer for throwing acid on a woman who refused to sleep with him? Hell, where he was from, it was acceptable. But it's not down here.
Shut up and deal you whiny bitch! Yeah, maybe it's not FAIR, or maybe it's not RIIIIIIIIIIIIII~whinge-hic~IIIIIIIGHT, but it's the way it bloody well is.

Also, people have slagged the judges for their refusal to be moved by her tear filled closing argument speech. Why did the judges ignore it? Because they said it had nothing to do with evidence - and they were right. Every idiot who walks in court claims they're not guilty! (I particularly like that phrase. Indonesian doesn't have a word for innocent - saya tidak bersalah literally means 'I'm not false/lying'). So yes, she was impassioned. But because it wasn't evidence - ie, the point of the whole trial, they ignored it. Sounds fair to me.

Yeah, that's a fair point. The "Bali 9" couldn't do that and now they're considered guilty.
As for thinking badly of Indonesia, I can't say that I think of it at all. Too busy worrying about my health, and how I'm gonna pay next months rent. =P I guess you could say I think about the country as much as it thinks about me - more total ignorance than anything.
And someone asked me how the judges could find her guilty. I said "because it's their court and their conclusion."
Well, this was more of a "pop in and say hi" post, as you might be able to tell by the garbled message.
