Watch 'The Devil's Backbone ', which has some similar themes and is even better. Genuinely brilliant, in fact.

Recommendation noted and stored away for a couple of months time when I'm feeling like watching something scary again :-) I wouldn't want to start making a habit of scary films, I'm not sure I quite have the constitution for it...

I need to have a long afternoon watching Guillermo Del Toro's "Spanish" films - 'Cronos', 'Devil's Backbone' and 'Pan's Labyrinth' some time, now I have the collection on DVD at last. Let me know if that's something you might fancy.
