The Sexism Issue Revisited

Jun 14, 2012 03:57

I know many of you are completely tired of this issue by now, so do please skip this post if you want to.
And I have already talked about it in the past, but I've been seeing so much real hurt among my friends in the past few days, and I just feel like I should throw in my two cents (or three or one hundred and fifty three...... orz) on the matter ( Read more... )

"To me, what he firmly believes is that if men were mentally (and physically) stronger for their women, women will be more free to express their innate femininity instead of having to act like guys, and then both men and women will be happier that way."

If only I could like this sentence 1000 times.
IF ONLY.
Because I wholeheartedly agree with this line, and I only wish other people could understand this.

I'm not gonna throw in my two cents or anything, only because I'm really tired of this sexism debate. The fandom goes through it every single year (and ironically, I've noticed, around this time, too LOL).

but I wanted to read what you had to say so I came over and commented anyway whoops

(((Someone I don't know suggested to me that we should, as fans, raise our voices together and tell GACKT that his views are sexist and that he needs to be more open-minded.
My answer to that, in short, was "No." I actually wanted to say "HELL NO" but didn't. :p
He is a grown man who can think for himself. Why is that our job, or even our right, to tell him how to think and what to say....))))

I LOVE THAT WORDS.... I also respect him for having his own views.I love his own thoughts.I don't want him to lie...

(strong men that they can rely on and that let them feel like women, safe and protected.) i also like that thought of GACKT.I like that kind of GACKT, his originally..

I accept your words.. you can write so well.
I understand that GACKT's sexiest means not the same like as some fandoms thoughts...
That was mean more than that kind of thoughts.,, it may contain cultures between man and woman,.. loves, and existences of man for woman for Today japan..
I thought like that...

Any type of stereotyping is, particularly on a large scale, harmful and should be abandoned, but I think people should learn a little bit about the context of any stereotyping before discussing it.

Wow this is really, really great. All said too well. I couldn't find the exact words to descibe it, but I always felt that GACKT never saw one gender to be more superior than the other as well. I'm really glad you shared this with us because I honestly think a large percentage of us do not know how Japanese culture used to be a few decades ago. And to hear it from someone who actually was there, no one can disprove that.
And what GACKT says was never wrong like you said. He's just super traditional (like he has said so many times before), and trying to help Japan stay like how it was.

Wow really I can't thank you enough for posting this. It even helped me set some things straight in my mind as well. Not to mention that this stated more fact than opinion! Hopefully no more arguments in the fandom now XD Kinda wondering if all of this started because people are still venting from all of the recent YFC news.

Thanks for sharing once again!! :)

Thank you for the comment. :3

Well, let me clearly say here, though, that I do think it IS wrong for him to be promoting stereotypes in his career like he has been with YFCz. It IS wrong and will be more harmful than helpful to the Japanese society, but he does mean 'well' and firmly believes in the cause.

"Kinda wondering if all of this started because people are still venting from all of the recent YFC news."

That's what it seemed like to me, too. LOL
A lot of fans have had their emotions stirred up lately. :'3

Thank you ValYoda and I just want to add my few cents here, its not that I don't think him sexist because I do. What bothers me is the implications that as a female I'm wrong because I am not offended by it. I personally love the idea of traditional general roles doesn't that make me broken no it just means that I know what I want and what I am comfortable with. I just don't see why we all just can't agree to disagree and leave it at that if we could fandom would be a much happier place.

"It's the never ending fight between liberals and conservatives, isn't it?"

It's so funny you say that because I think GACKT is such a strange mixture of a liberal and a conservative. I think he's mostly only conservative in terms of gender roles, but yeah, he's such a conundrum. lol
