Ah, the pressures of high school which can be particularly rough on the smart ones. To make matters worse they are the ones that have the wherewithall to do something about it.
Always dangerous setting a fic in a school but you've handled it very well, setting the scene and allowing Alex to be himself, a regular kid in a bad place and not some stereotype.
I liked how Don was honest with Alex about the joys of school life, he may have been a jock but his brother wasn't and so has perspective on both sides of the equation. I also like the way you wrote the brief interplay between Charlie and Don outside at the SUV, very real and simple.
