I like these topical poems you've been posting. It helps put modern issues/events in context and reminds me of the many roles art has. I hope to see more of them in the future!

Really? I always thought posting topical poems was a little much, a little too cheesy. And I never know if I should relate it clearly (like I did here) or if savvy readers will just get it. Generally I try to find appropriate poems for big deal holidays (Yom Kippur, Eid al-Fitr, Hanukkah, Christmas, Winter Solstice, Easter, New Year's, and 4th of July) but often I only post relevant poems for a few of those; (it's hard to find poems for some of those holidays!) I also try to post a poem for September 11th. Okay, so I guess I post more of these topical ones than I thought at first: Election Day, Veteran's Day, Halloween, Valentine's Day, and Mother's/Father's Day sometimes too. So I suppose current events is what I'm saying I don't tend to relate poems to. But you like that? Any thoughts as to more?

I don't think it's cheesy at all! But I think I do tend to respond less to poems related to the "big deal holidays" and more to ones about the issues and the holidays/events people don't think about so much. And if I said I hoped you did more of it, I should clarify that I meant I hope you keep doing it -- as far as I'm concerned, you have a really good balance already.

But since I get almost all of my poetry from here these days, I can't suggest anything specific. Or if you mean general suggestions, there's always historical anniversaries, although I guess it would be research heavy to find both an event you're interested in and a poem about it.

Anyway, I don't comment enough but I really appreciate all the work you do in this community!

I love:

she died
of that drought. What kind of man
could understand such thirst?

And the "good standing"/"understanding" bit. Such nicely balanced words.
