824: I Have To Tell You

"I Have To Tell You"
Dorothea Grossman

I have to tell you,
there are times when
the sun strikes me
like a gong,
and I remember everything,
even your ears.

I have been curious about this for a long time. Do you write poetry as well as reading it? Or do you prefer simply to read?

I do! I'm currently trying to do a poem a day for April, even though I'm about five days behind.

As part of the 30/30 challenge?

I tried the 30/30 challenge last year (got about 28/30), but I couldn't find it when April came around this year. I guess it does still exist. Haha.

I used to. But life has forced all my energy into other disciplines right now. Although, when I am out of school, I plan on starting it again. :) (along with all the rest of my art!)

I do. I'm in the writers' house program at my school, where a bunch of writer students live in the same dorm and take creative writing classes together. it's very... dramatic.

I wrote a lot more during my undergrad when I had access to things like poetry jams and creative writing classes. Now I write one poem every few months or so, depends what's going on emotionally and if something strikes me. I also don't read it nearly enough anymore, but that's what grad school in the sciences will do to you...
