She's allowed him to think she loves him as much as he loves her, and yet, she would dump him so fast he wouldn't know what hit him. What kind of betrayal does it take to recognize a horrible human ( Read more... )

A big part of why I could never like Gwen was how she treated Rhys, she claimed to love him but I never saw it. She was so willingly to cheat on him, then she drugged him before confessing so she didn't have to deal with the fallout of her actions. Plus I always felt she kept stringing Rhys along as back up because she couldn't have Jack. Gwen confirmed that when she told Jack the only reason she was marrying Rhys was because he was the only one to ask her.

It really baffles me how some Gwen and Jack/Gwen fans act like Gwen is a saint who has done nothing wrong and then twist Rhys into a abusive monster when he has proven time and time again he truly loves Gwen.

Rhys abusive? I never saw Rhys being abusive, and I watched every episode through the horror that was COE. I always felt she was keeping him as 'backup' in case her fling with Owen and play for Jack didn't work out. I can imagine how he would feel if he ever found out about that, being not even second choice, but literally 'in case nothing better comes along'. Her treatment of Rhys isn't the only thing that bothers me about her, either. In my mind, she is a despicable person, and the more people tell me she's great (including the writers) the more I wonder about them.

It seems to be a trend among the new Jack/Gwen fans to make Rhys abusive in order to bash him because canon shows him as anything but.

I've tried to see the good in Gwen's character but it's so hard when in the show her bad out weighs her good points.

I once saw a post on tumblr that said the reason Ianto died was because he became more popular than Gwen and RTD could handle that his favorite wasn't everyone's favorite and it made me wonder how true that really was.

I'm not sure. Gareth has said he was supposed to die in the first season, but they liked him so kept him. I've read this, anyway. I've also read that Turdman was really disrespectful to Gareth in front of people at a con, so it wouldn't surprise me that he wanted him gone. He (RTD) does not seem like a nice man. I've also read that he wanted a show for Gwen, but couldn't get it made, so he did the TW spinoff as her show, even though it was meant to be JB's. All I know for sure it that he ruined a great premise by making it about her, and then making her despicable while telling us how great she was. I wish they'd just kept Suzie and skipped Gwen altogether. I am very happy to read fan fic that does not include her. She is not missed, and I sometimes am dismayed when she is brought in later in a fic. She makes me cringe. Literally. I can't rewatch the show because of it. Oh, it sounds like I don't like Gwen. Odd. LOL
