There's definitely something musical in the air lately! Drums, keyboards, guitars... seems like a lot of folks are picking up instruments. I wish you all success in your stringed endeavor. And may your bontemps continue to rouler, or however you spell it.

Roulez? Heck, I don't know.

Thank you! Interested in riding with me up to Bill's Music this weekend, or will it be taken up with paper stuff?

I thought the weekend would be taken up with post-advisor-meeting revisions, but as it happens, my advisor hasn't actually read my paper yet. So I could maybe be free for musical shopping of a Saturday afternoon. But now you've bought a guitar on ebay, is that still your plan?

Well I guess I still need...a strap? A stand? Hrm, those should probably wait 'til I have the gee-tar.

We could still get together and do...something else!

Keeps you sharp learning a new thing.

I'm at the point where I want to shoot my son's guitar because I'm supposed to be re-stringing it and I can't recall how!!

I don't know how I managed to make all of that last comment into a quote - that wasn't supposed to happen!

That's something else I thought of, that having structured lessons teaching me a new thing should be a good experience. Moreso now than when I was younger, and music lessons just made me sullen.

Surely the internet can tell you how to restring a guitar!

oh i wish, i wish, i wish i was born a man
so i could learn how to stand up for myself
like those guys with guitars
i've been watching in bars
who've been stamping their feet to a different beat
to a different beat

I suddenly got reminded of this bit from the Martha Wainwright song "Bloody Motherfucking Asshole"... I love watching guys with guitars in bars. Watching Martha with her guitar a while back was pretty cool too. I wish I could play the guitar, but I know I would be absolutely useless. So instead I dream. Good luck with it all, and let me know how you get on! I so understand the dream

Those lyrics are wonderful! I don't know much from Martha Wainwright, I should check her out.

I have wished I could play the guitar since I was too small to hold one. It may happen that I have no aptitude for it really, but rather than taking halfassed attempts at it on and off, I'd rather pay a professional and actually motivate myself to practice this time!

Well thank you as well! I'm also really enjoying your CD. In fact I read about the Arlington show - the 6th is actually my birthday! - but it's unfortunately a little too far and a little too late for me. I get up stupid early. But I'll keep an eye out for other shows! (Baltimore's a bit closer to home for me...)
