Quote from a person who shall remain nameless, after discussing having done historical re-enactment:

"Oh. My. God. I'm a geek. I'm a re-enactor geek who finds love over the internet. Oh my god. You know those people who think they're cool, but aren't? Am I one of those people? DON'T POST THAT IN YOUR JOURNAL!"

what kind of re-enactment? I almost got to do a civil war re-enactment once, I would've got to play a dead body up at camp ripley. But then justin got in a dispute with his aunt and uncle so no being dead body for me. :(

Playing a dead body in a civil war re-enactment... that's probably something to be glad you missed!

Yeah, big difference between "This is how medieval peoples cooked and made clothes etc" and "Hey, let's make chain mail out of paper clips in the garage and then go beat on each other with wooden swords".

I have a few friends that have dressed up as zombies for walks. does that count? how about the time I had a pirate party? I didn't think that was nerdy until I came across some people posting online about their own pirate parties, and they were without a doubt nerdy folk.

pirates are cool, but zombies are WAY better. I should have a zombie party.

Total coincidence: Last night I was talking with my daughter about whether vampires or pirates were more cool. Her argument that vampires were cooler was very convincing. They have all these supernatural powers these days with which pirates cannot compete. I think they have even more supernatural powers now than they did when I was a teenager. I'm not sure how this has occured... Maybe there is a thinktank of vampires who research new paranormal technology that they can be implemented by the general vampire population.

Anyway, this begs the question: which are cooler, vampires or zombies? I think vampires have the upper hand on this competition also, but I'm willing to consider other points of view.

Nah, that's not geeky, in fact that person sounds super-cool. You know what would make them REALLY super-duper cool - if they were into rocks or dinosaurs or something like that....

How many people do you think you could shoot and kill at a reenactment before people realized you had a real, working gun?

Since we're talking about medeival re-enactment here, I'm betting zero.

You might be talking about medieval reenactments, but I'm talking about the huge Civil War reenactment they just had at Gettysburg. I bet I could take at least 20 of 'em out before anyone caught on.

and then in the confusion change into a different costume and wash yourself and get away with it all!
