don't be an idiot -- don't read this if you want no spoilers. i'm certainly not going to ruin the ending or anything, but something might slip. believe it or not, i have watched all of these movies in the past week. i kind of want to run them down here, for my own sake, and for recommendations. feel free to call me out on anything mentioned in the ( Read more... )

To respond to your tidbit about Memoirs, with this particular movie set in this particular time period with those two particular cultures, it would be like making a movie about WWI with French actors playing Germans. Everybody in the west would be all up in that, being like, "what? That doesn't make any sense." It's not necessarily the ultimate sin in Memoirs, but ultimately frustrating. There are plenty of beautiful, talented Japanese actresses who could've played the parts and who WOULDN'T have had to go to "Geisha school" for the film, but I guess they just weren't big enough names ( ... )

I liked V for Vendetta when I saw it, but then I read the graphic novel and was shocked at how many liberties the Wacowzki brothers took with the story. I still like the movie, but I'm very glad I saw the movie first.

The reasons you didn't like Proof were the same reasons I did. I ran lights for a production of it at my college and liked how it felt exactly the same. I'm glad you dug The Squid and the Whale, loved that one.
