Despondent

I have to not house-stalk. There is literally nothing now that we even want to look at. Where did all the houses go??? The ones that do come up sell in about 8 days. Holy crap. This whole thing went from laid-back to stressful. Blech.

*Deep breath*

We will find the right house for us. I just need to be patient.

Sounds like the same market as here. Our mortgage guy told me he used to do real estate and it's cyclical. Once people see their neighbors' houses selling for good prices, they start putting their houses on the market too--but it takes a while for it to sink in, etc. So yes, this is a big exercise in patience. A big, annoying exercise.

yeah, it's hard not to get attached. i fell in love with two different houses that needed far more renovation than would have been good for us (and the sellers, not really understanding how much work was involved, or perhaps just thinking that *somebody* who didn't know any better would make an offer, wouldn't lower the price to something reasonable). we ended up buying a house i feel neutral about, but we don't intend to live here forever. i think i got what i needed rather than what i wanted (and in fact, the house fits the description i wrote up when doing multiple "home" spells). next time, though, i won't settle. :)

The hard part is, we're looking for a permanent home. No moving for at least 20 years. That ups the stakes quite a bit.

Those spells are tricky. I felt that way about my wishes -- not even a spell -- for my first pregnancy. I thought anything but bedrest would be bearable -- and that's pretty much what I got: every form of crappy short of bedrest.

I've been wishing different this time, and it's working out. Not that it all gets down to wishes, but still: you set an intention, and it matters.

If you are planning to buy for the long haul, all the more reason to take your time before plunking down a big chunk of change. Contrary to what agents try to make you feel, there will always be more houses. Even if prices go up, better to pay more/ get a bit less house than make a huge mistake. And as long as your financial ducks are in a row, you can be the one to jump on a listing as soon as it goes on the market, and make an offer.
