Caught between bureaucracies

I called NV DMV today to ask about my driver's license, since they'd said it would take maybe 10 days to arrive in the mail and we're coming up on a month and still nothing. They said it was sent out on the 11th (plausible, I went to DMV on the 10th) and returned as undeliverable on the 18th. WTF? I've been getting my mail here practically since ( Read more... )

If you haven't gone to the post office, do so and meet with a supervisor and explain the issue. He or she will know who delivers your mail and will speak to the carrier(s). I had a similar problem when I moved in to my house eight years ago and that's what it took to resolve it.

I called 800-ASK-USPS today for followup on my undelivered 8822. They said the case was marked as resolved but with no indication as to why -- fabulous. Referred me to my local office phone # to inquire as to the resolution.

Called local #, guy says they researched the issue and what they were told was that the IRS gets fuckloads of mail, and it isn't scanned as delivered until they get around to processing each individual piece, which, yes, could take a month. Suggested I wait another 10 days.

While I had him on the phone, I asked about possible delivery issues. He said if I'm getting my mail, I should be getting my mail, and claimed that if the regular carrier is off or sick etc. and the replacement carrier is unsure of a piece, they will leave it for the regular carrier to take action on. Ehh.

But bottom line it does sound like I should just go have DMV try again.

It can take a while for the new address to propagate down from the root nameservers.
