It's usually not so bad. I sometimes listen to podcasts (albeit with regular cheap earbuds) but I can tolerate a wide range of music etc. and often I'm playing at a bar so there's sports on TV or something which is fine. Inane conversation doesn't even really bother me. But hearing the cashout sond every ten seconds was driving me up the wall. Fortunately they didn't stay for too long.

Is "They're idiots" a sufficient explanation? I've heard stories of people who cash out via ticket after every win, and then insert the ticket back in, necessitating frequent visits from an attendant to replace the rapidly depleting roll of paper.

fich has a story of playing next to someone just like that, who then complained "These machines are always running out of paper." You can't make this shit up. (Well, he may have, but I don't think he did.)

In general I go with "they're idiots." They may have thought it was lucky and/or romantic.
