How in heck?

So, right now my anti-virus software is telling me that I should really consider running a thorough full system scan (in addition to the on-access scans for internet, e-mail, etc.) just a teensy tiny tad more often. "Ignore the fact that it takes several hours to complete," it cajoles, "and consider the fact that I just found a Trojan in a program ( Read more... )

Meep!! Write down what they are and google them. At one time, sometimes things like java and such were "mis-read" by some anti-virus programs.

Ah, my anti-virus is really good about that, though. (Plus, I think it just updated its definitions today....)

Overall, there were 25 infected files. o.O (In several hundred thousand, or a couple million potential candidates, and most of those were in old Temporary files.) I begin to think they were actually from when I transferred my files from my other computer, for the most part. For the other part, I blame some of the ads that have been on certain sites.

(I actually had a freaking ad on fanfiction.net do such crazy things to my computer two weeks ago that I restored it to a previous recovery point even after I successfully removed it. This thing was freaky - it actually squirmed through my defenses and pulled down my firewall. O.O)

A lot of the time, I have been using Firefox when going to sites where either there's a history of shitty ad-choice or I don't know whether the site's up (or what state it's in, should it in fact prove to still exist ^.^; ).

That time, though, I'd been browsing some of the fanfic authors in my IE-based browser (Avant runs some of my sites more smoothly than Firefox, for whatever reason), and fanfiction.net had apparently not proofed this ad before pushing it through to the ad bank. -.-

The reason I was running the scan on my whole system today was that I'd ended up blocking a virus from some random ad on some random site last night, and I just figured I'd make sure there wasn't anything dangerous on my computer while I was still thinking about it. ^.^
