Item One: It had been my goal, on and off for the decade or so, to locate a full copy of the "The Story of BJ and Rachel" set that Moxy Früvous played way back in 1998. I'd found a partial copy on Napster back in the day, and I loved it to death. The gist of it is that Moxy Früvous arranged their songs into a rough plot line and wrote ridiculous ( Read more... )

Oh dear--are you sure I didn't kill the Suprise Music Battle game by being completely crap at following-through with music mixes?

Whomever's to blame, we have to resurrect that game. (When you least suspect it! Dunh dunh duh.... :P)

I will get back to you on songs. If I don't, poke me! (But I will. I will I will I will!)

In the meantime, when do sign-ups for Yuletide start? Holy crap, there is so much damned build-up for this fest, I just need it to start already!!! (Seriously, people are planning for this thing like it's D Day. /inappropriate reference.)

I think the ball may have been in my court to finish my Sarah mix (I still have my preliminary playlist on my iTunes, but could never narrow it down properly). It may have been a case of us mutually destroying the game. (-; I do want to point out, though, that I made it three songs into my "Songs that Tell a Story" mix. It went Flaming Lips - Waiting for a Superman; Andy Stochansky - Wonderful (It's Superman); the Mountain Goats - Oceanographer's Choice. I couldn't decide what sort of soul-crushing, all-hope-is-lost songs to end it with.) ^_^

All right: I am starting to compile songs for possible story-writing. I won't make you pick all of them, because: well, that would be cruel!

So, my first song prompt involves these two songs: (discussions of my weird taste in woman-y folk music are off the table!)

"The Queen and the Soldier" by Suzanne Vega

"Cruel Queen" by Damon and Naomi

See, in my head, the queens from these two songs are the same--a younger and older version of the same woman. Discuss! :P

(It occurs to me this is much more the kind of think-y, angst-y, emotional schlock that I would write about, but whatevs! Just be glad I didn't saddle you with Kate Bush. :P Now, I am off to find more songs to throw at you!)

Psh, if you'd given me Kate Bush I would've just linked you to Wuthering Heights no matter which song you chose. (-;

Are you still taking songs? I would like to be a punk and suggest "Psycho Killer" by the Talking Heads, because you can't give a request like this and not expect crack.
