It's been almost three weeks since my last gardenspam, and look at how they've grown:

I might get to eat something soon! )

Lovely plants are lovely... though baffling. I couldn't keep up with all the storms/weird growths/mites/pollination, to be sure.

What's a DI, please?

P.S. That picture of the stormy sky... fantastic! Despite the damage, I'm a little jealous; we don't get proper storms out here. (Watch me complain and complain until a forest fire breaks out and shuts me up.)

Don't mind the rambling in between pictures. I get verbose about the plants, but the important part is that they're pretty to look at. (-:

Sorry! I tend to assume everyone is used to be going on about DI. DI is Destination Imagination, which (mainly) organizes creative problem-solving tournaments. We also do a lot of workshops and things during the off-season, which is what we were doing yesterday.

This is the first storm we've had here of that particular quality (that I've experienced, at least). Normally they're way more subdued and not nearly as interesting. The Thursday storm was actually exciting enough that we abandoned our weekly TV night in order to stare out the window for half an hour.

Gorgeous! Gorgeous, gorgeous! Your strawberries in particular look lovely! I think mine have given up. They're producing long, spindly runners, trying to reach the garden and plant themselves in the ground, but I haven't had any berries for weeks.

I love your hipster!chard, and that boxwood basil looks just beautiful! What I'm most jealous of are your beans--mine aren't even close to producing beans yet! They've just started climbing up their fence in earnest and producing flowers.

Your poor tomato! Terrible, terrible storms...

I'm almost afraid to call my friend who works at the conservatory--I know how much she needs that job. (Having a baby in the fall, and she and her husband just bought a house a year ago.) It's just so very sad!

I seem to be averaging about a 33% on strawberry success, though I have my fingers crossed that one of the other two plants will finish up sulking and open a flower or two.

That particular bean is one of three sprouts, and is the only one that survived the move outside (I let them get too spindly before I replanted them, which was a mistake). I think I planted it back in March or April or something, so it had better be making beans!

I've been kind of obsessively reading the news stories, and most of them aren't as doom and gloom as the ones I read last night. They're already putting a cover up over the ferns to keep the sun out, and apparently our psycho weather is actually kind of okay for the desert and fern rooms in the meantime. There seems to be a lot of support from people, because I keep seeing links to the donation page popping up in unexpected places, so I'm going to hope that means lots of people are also pitching in.

That reminds me! I need to put up a link to the donation page on my journal...
