Can one, say, lurk around and make snide, unnecessary comments on channels? Because you need one of those people.

I think, if Evilhat were auditioning people for that role, she'd be overwhelmed with applications. I know I'd put my hat in the ring.

malabranca was trying to tempt me and shiny_bauble with news of your new MUSH last night. While I was almost swept away by waves of nostalgia, Amber has never been my thing, so I'll just lurk your LJ for news for a while. I do wish you the best of luck with it, though.

How much would a complete lack of mush experience be tolerated? :)

Entirely welcome :)

Alrighty, then. Got a mush client, got a character. Now what?
What's protocol? Can you point me towards the idiot's guide to mushing?

Well, at the moment we are not open for roleplay -- we will be in about six weeks. You are welcome to hang out for the meantime, though.

You can try this guide, perhaps:

I have more faith in this new game than I've had in any of the others I've tried. I've looked at the Wiki, but can you tell me, how can we make noble houses really work? Since there seems less room for 'kidbits' from Features on this one, but more room for Nobles who actually can do something....Will we make noble houses that *do* something and have the opportunity to impact play and politics, rather than - to be blunt - hold dinner parties and costume balls, fuss over dressing like people in Elizabethan England, and generally play at Court formalities? I thrive on the former, get very bored with the latter, and because of time and personality, know I'm not up to playing a Feature. Forgive me for what may seem excessive cynicism. I just know what people have tended to do with Amber nobles in the past, and I'd like to see them be much, much more than that.

I certainly believe it, or I wouldn't be structuring a game this way. :)

There's still plenty of room for kidbits, but in general, we're going to want to see the kidbits tied to things in Amber (or Rebma, or the GC), rather than being freefloating folks whose loyalties are to something that's offscreen. We think the latter tends to scatter the player base, as well as making it very hard for people to care about what's going on.

Noble houses are potent in their own right, both from the perspective of personal power (including their own unique bloodline abilities), as well as their importance to the kingdom. Prop ownership is really significant, as well. The same applies to the Golden Circle.

I am hoping that we're creating a setting where the non-kidbits are every bit as interesting as the kidbits. (I think it's a good sign that most of the people who've logged in so far have expressed interest in noble houses rather than in kidbits, too.)

Congrats on pre-opening! As soon as I have a free moment to combobulate myself (I haven't even really had time to be social on Logrus or anywhere) I will try to pop by or read the wiki. Now, I must sleep.

Will there be opportunities to crush the dreams of others? 'Cuz I haven't really snuffed out an up-and-comer since the Jorvik War ended...

Isn't that inevitable? :)

Man, I *fear* what a bunch of Looterati would do as a noble house. Especially if they were, say, Bayle, the vintners of Amber.

I miss Bayle. I liked him.
