Greenlane Driving

I recently found out about this sport, a sport with so many devotees that there are clubs and holidays and everything. It's called 'greenlaning', though it might be spelt differently, and I just got to try it. It's great fun. You take a 4x4 (a real 4x4, not a pretend one) down a track that is technically a road but certainly won't take any normal ( Read more... )

Maybe if the Mini had twin exhausts. You could possibly pick it up and use it as a wheelbarrow. ;)

If you liked that, you should really look into rally and rallycross driving. I'm not sure how things are around you, but considering the fact that it's more popular on your side of the pond than on mine and I have no problem finding a local club, I can't imagine you'd have any trouble.

Rally involves racing as fast as you possibly can over tiny dirt roads (usually) through rough terrain, through trees or sand or mud or over streams. The drivers have never been to the course before, have never seen the courses before, and are given only notes -- they have a navigator (a co-driver) who must guide them while they're driving through extremely difficult and dangerous terrain at very high speeds. It's very, very exciting.

Land Rovers aren't built for rally racing, really, but if you enjoy off-roading, it's still something a lot of fun to look into.

*LOL* Like it! If you want to really see what a LandRover can do - get down to Rover's test track for them in Oxfordshire. When I worked in the motor industry I went down there - boy was it different!! Didn't know a Lanny could do half of what it did!

As to the rallying - try it out! Been there - done that. Got a friend who's a nut for it and drives in several of the british ones. All I can say about it is forget _everything_ you'd do on a normal road (the rules of driving are turned on their head for rally...)
