By the way, Comcast can definitely count me as someone who will soon be an ex-customer as soon as there's some decent competition here.  So far this year they've managed to increase everyone's bill for upgrading to digital cable by adding a $7 fee for "HD service" which would have been fine if anyone had ever mentioned it when I was upgrading.

Ummm... we're not paying anymore. There is an option to not get the extra HD channels. The digital plan we have is basically the old analogue lineup plus on-demand.
