Good Day Sunshine Full light on Alan's face was what woke him this time. He turned his head away, the sun stinging his eyes, and looked at the clock. It was close to eleven. They had managed to sleep an additional three hours. And there was a damp spot on his shoulder where Robert's mouth rested. "Charming," he said fondly, brushing his fingers through Robert's hair, trying to ease him out of his doze.
Robert gave a sleepy sigh and slowly opened his eyes.
"You were drooling," Alan informed him.
Robert blinked slowly, trying to comprehend the complicated sentence. He gently eased off of Alan, rolling to his back and fumbling for his glasses.
Alan propped himself up on his elbow and watched Robert lean over the edge of the bed when he dropped his glasses. He found them all too soon, putting them on and turning to his side.
When Robert rolled back over, he caught the tail end of the look Alan had been giving his ass. He coughed, feeling heat rise to his cheeks as Alan grinned at him.
"Ready to get up?"
Robert looked past Alan at the clock and his eyes widened. "I think that's a good idea." He tipped his glasses up to rub at his eyes, trying to get past the morning fog that the extra sleep had brought on. He resisted the urge to take the bedsheet with him to wrap around his waist as he moved to get out of the bed.
"Do you want to use the shower first?" Alan asked.
"I need to find out what I need to buy, so you go ahead. And, if you had a bigger shower, you wouldn't have had to ask that."
Alan raised his eyebrows in surprise, but Robert just bit his lip and started looking around for something to wear.
"Help yourself. I'm fairly sure that my clothes are all washed."
Robert waited until he heard the bathroom door close before cautiously taking a sniff of the shirt he had pulled out.

After a quick breakfast, Alan donned a dark blue cap and the two guys set off. Their first stop was at Meir and Frank, where Alan insisted on making Robert try on every hat they sold. "But I don't need a hat," he complained as Alan perched another on his head.
But Alan just shushed him and continued his fun until he sadly ran out of hats. Robert slipped away from him as Alan started for a small sunglasses display, and started hunting out enough clothes to last him a week or so. He figured that what ever he didn't want to pack to take home, he could always just leave in London with Alan, but he also didn't want to be leaden down with too much. Their day was just beginning.
Alan waited until they were outside before quickly putting a baseball cap on Robert's head. Grinning, he stood back to admire it before Robert could pull it off to look at it.
"Arsenal?" Robert questioned, reading the red team name on the front. "But I haven't even seen them play before."
"One of these days," Alan promised, grinning once Robert sighed and put the hat back on.

They wandered around for awhile, making a few more stops until Robert was satisfied with his new wardrobe. With the shopping out of the way, they had the rest of the day to themselves.
"Lunch before we hit the museums?" Robert asked, shifting his grip on his bags.
"What are you in the mood for?"
Robert tried, really he did, to keep the blush from rising to his cheeks, but Alan saw it.
"Dirty mind, Mr. Leonard," Alan tutted, bumping Robert's hip just enough to send him slightly off course.
After apologizing to the couple he almost tripped over, Robert rejoined Alan, sending him a glare. After they started walking again and Robert's face returned to normal, he asked, "Are we close to St. James?"
"The park?"
Laughing Robert looked over and nodded. "We can grab sandwiches, and read. It would be nice to rest."
"Too much shopping?"
"No, just thought it would be a nice spot for lunch."
"Come on, then, just a bit of a walk."
They stopped by Pret for sandwiches. He ordered a roasted red pepper and cheese with cream cheese on wheat, while Robert ordered a turkey and Swiss with mustard on white. Sandwiches safely tucked away, they next stopped by Waterstone's to find something to read. Robert skimmed over the book collection before a crossword book caught his eye. Alan had disappeared deeper into the store for a moment, but quickly returned to Robert's side, grinning like a loon. Robert gave him a questioning look, but didn't mention anything until after they made their purchases and were out on the street.
"Nothing." Alan tightened his hold on the bag after Robert questioned the contents.
"You seem to be full of secrets lately."
Alan grinned and whispered, "And you're sexy when you blush."
Robert gave him a slight smile, trying his best not to blush, and walked into the park through the Marlborough Gate entrance, pausing just inside to take in the beauty of the park. It reminded him of Central Park, which is probably why he loved visiting it so much when he was in London. He turned to ask Alan where they should go, but Alan was no longer by his side. Robert looked around and finally spotted a curl or two peeking out from under a cap. It looked like had Alan gone to rent a pair of deck chairs. Robert waited, keeping one eye on Alan so he wouldn't lose him again, while looking at the beauty of the park with the other. His concentration was broken by a series of giggles coming from his left. He closed his eyes, hoping that the ruckus wasn't headed his way. When he opened his eyes, his view of Alan was obstructed by three girls clutching each other and staring at him.
"Hello, girls," he said cautiously.
They giggled in response.
He stood there, discomfort settling around the four of them, Alan forgotten for the moment as he tried to figure out if his life was in immediate danger and if he should make a break for it.
Finally, the girl on the left gathered enough courage to speak. "Uhh Mr. Leonard," she said softly, trying to be respectful, but then lost all pretense. "Ohh my god... Robert Sean Leonard... in London... umm... can we have a picture?? We love you in House and think Dr. Wilson is real brilliant, we also loved you in Swing Kids and we think that My Best Friend is a Vampire was a really funny movie! So why are you in London, are you in a play?'
Robert's head was swimming, and all he could do was blink while the girl finally pulled herself together and recovered her composure. He knew he could not respond to everything she had said. Frankly, he only understood about half of it. He was pretty sure she had said something about a photo. "A picture would be fine."
Alan stepped up, out of no where. "I can take it," he volunteered with a large grin.
Their heads snapped around in unison toward the newcomer. They looked at Alan, as if trying to place him. The girl in the middle shoved the camera forward and, in a flash, they had formed a loose circle around Robert.
"A little closer," Alan helpfully encouraged. He looked at Robert through the viewfinder, enjoying watching him be the center of attention and looking quite uncomfortable. "There you go, perfect. One, two ...three." The shutter clicked and Alan congratulated on getting a nice picture. He was tempted to ask for a copy, but it seemed a little strange, even for him. He handed the camera back and waited to catch Robert's attention. Once Robert looked over at him, he tilted his head over to a grouping of trees in the shade, and then picked up the chairs to walk over.
Robert nodded his understanding, looking for all the world like he was being abandoned to the vultures.
Alan chuckled as he heard a new wave of giggles rise up, glad for once that he wasn’t on the receiving end of his ‘adoring’ public. As he walked over to the shade, he was happy to have found a quiet place for the two of them to enjoy a spot of lunch.
The second girl, feeling a little more confident after the picture was a success, shoved a piece of paper at Robert. "Can I have your autograph?"
Robert looked at her with kind eyes, "Sure, name?"
"Lisa. Are you in London long?"
"Lisa, I am visiting friends in London, so I will be here for a little while." He signed her wrinkled piece of paper and handed it back.
A second larger piece of paper was shoved at him. It was from the quietest of the three. "Annabelle." She offered her name meekly. "Are you visiting House?" She laughed, nervously. "I mean Hugh Laurie. He is so fab as House, and you two seem to have a good time together."
All three broke out into loud nervous laughter.
"Hugh and I like working together, and I am sure I will see him at some point." He handed back the paper.
"Maddie. And are you on the West End for the break?"
"Well Maddie, no. I decided after the season Wilson had, I needed some time to recover."
They all laughed and agreed.
"It was nice that he had a story line," Lisa added. "He is my favorite character."
"That is nice to know, I am glad you enjoy the show. Is it still running here?"
"Yes," added Maddie. "We are only at episode 10, though we have seen them all. Objection just aired last night."
Robert smiled. "I have no idea what the episodes are called. What happened?"
"Oh it was great! Wilson went to Vegas to marry that Hannah girl, the mother of the boy who died in episode 6 of brain cancer, and House flew to Vegas to tell Wilson it was a mistake, but they fought, and Wilson married her. He told House that it was something he could not understand and that it was something private. House got mad and flew on the next plane out of town."
Robert nodded and smiled. He remembered filming that. It was right before he met Alan at the cabin. He had gone in every day, hoping that the days would go faster. My, how things had changed.
"There is lots more drama to come. I hope you enjoy it."
'We will," they scarily said in unison. "Thank you."
"You are welcome. Have a nice day."
He watched as the three of them clung together and walked towards the exit of the park. Their excited squeals and giggles could be heard well after they vanished from sight. Robert shook his head and headed towards Alan, looking to see where he had settled. He spotted him, lounging in the chair and reading a book with the sandwich propped on his chest, and smiled. He was really looking forward to Portugal, where they could spend lots of anonymous time together. Picking up his bags, he walked over to the chair and noticed a pen, crossword dictionary and the book of puzzles sitting next to a water and his sandwich. "Nice service." he laughed.
"Well, you seemed a little busy. How were the girls?"
"They are fine. A little loud, but seemed well-intentioned."
"Still happy to be at the park?"
"Now I am." He gave Alan a smile. "But that," he gestured to where the girls had gone, "just comes with the territory. Nothing too bad. At least they didn't grab my ass."
Alan looked at him with a glint in his eye and a serious look across his mouth. "That's my job." A wink punctuated the remark.
Robert laughed and set down his bags. He scooped up his lunch and settled into the chair, then noticed Alan staring at him. "Is there something wrong?"
"No, I just like watching that cute ass."
Robert looked around for something to throw and, finding nothing, settled for revenge later. "How's the sandwich?"
"It's good, but not as good as...'
"All right, I get the picture." Robert unwrapped his sandwich, opened up this puzzle book, and dove in.
They sat about eighteen inches apart, Robert working on his crossword, asking a question every once in a while, and Alan reading a book on popular culture. They both were enjoying the simple pleasure of just a day out in London, enjoying the park and the silent company. It was warm, but not hot, and the quiet hum of the people around was just background noise. Nothing stood out or disturbed their peace.
Alan noticed that Robert was squinting hard at the page. He watched the slender fingers pick up the dictionary and flip pages, looking up some obscure reference. Alan set his own book down and watched as Robert's face betrayed a torrent of emotions; first confusion, then puzzlement, followed by success, and then the realization that the success was short-lived. Alan thought he could watch him doing this all day, if not every day for the rest of their lives. He knew he had been a total tit and had almost ruined what could have been the best person to ever come into his life, but he was determined to work as hard as possible to make this work. Alan smiled to himself and realized that he was knee deep in love and sinking quickly. He knew he loved Robert, had loved him for a long time now, but this felt different, this was something deeper. They had both learned lessons. Alan wondered if Robert was his soul mate, the person to spend the rest of his life with, sharing and giving. Building a life, a private life, together. Alan watched Robert for a few more minutes as Robert finally puzzled out the latest clue. Success was his! And, Alan thought, if they could stay together, success could be theirs.
They stayed in the shade for a few hours, until Alan started to drift off, his body relaxing into the chair. He knew if they did not leave soon, he would soon fall asleep. "Robert, ready to get going?" he asked, muffling a yawn.
Robert looked over and nodded. He tucked the dictionary and the crossword book into his bags, then stood to fold his chair up. He noticed that Alan seemed a little tired. "Are you sure you are up for more?"
"Yes, just need to move. V and A?"
"How about the Queen's museum?"
"Sure. It's just over that way." Alan gestured over towards Buckingham Palace. He folded his own chair, then took Robert's, heading away to turn them back in as Robert gathered their bags. "You ready?" Alan asked once he returned.
Robert nodded, and they set off, heading towards the museum. They walked side by side, feet and conversations light, arms only a breath away from touching.
The crowds were thicker, and Alan was able to find the perfect excuse to grope Robert's ass.
Robert turned to look at Alan's 'innocent' face, hoping that it was Alan feeling him up rather than some stranger. He just rolled his eyes and subtly bumped Alan back, a little harder than he had intended, causing Alan to get a death glare from an older woman who didn't like curly-haired moppets in her face.
Alan couldn't keep the smile from his lips as they continued on their way. Success!
