I really want to be involved, and informed, and help to make change through government and social services.  But then I just get so depressed and discouraged with it all, sometimes I think we are better off building a nice house out in the middle of nowhere and preparing for the end times.

I guess it really depends on the situation, though...I think you're thinking of something specific, and I'm not, really. First of all, I agree that it's not ever okay to belittle or deny someone's experience. But doesn't it work the other way, as well; if your experiences/opinions are not necessarily Truth, whose are? The other person is the "you" on the other side. The "victim" perceives a situation one way...likely, the "perpetrator" perceives it in another. Mayn't a third party sometimes see the whole picture more the way it is?

And I don't necessarily think that blindness to injustice is the biggest problem; unwillingness/perceived inability to get involved strikes me as much more rampant.

hmm I agree, you only really have your version of reality and whatever versions of other reality you choose to listen to/accept. but maybe here I'm thinking specifically in terms of injustice - when not listening to someone else's reality hurts them or others. I will develop this more at a time that is not nearly midnight.
