hello! so i've had eczema on my face and scalp now for years - i've tried a few things and so far nothing really has worked (i went to a dermatologist once and i was recommended steroid cream and nizoral. the steroid cream made my face oily and thin, and the nizoral caused my hair to fall out, most of which hasn't seen fit to grow back, so now i'm ( Read more... )

I had eczema on the scalp and forehead, and my hair was patchy and had areas that didn't grow). The itchiness was terrible! My dermatologist told me that eczema was inflammation and could be an allergic reaction and said it would be a good idea to figure out if I was allergic to something in my diet or skin/hair products. I stopped using everything (soaps, shampoos, haircolors, moisturizers), and slowly started adding back the most basic stuff (like washing with plain soap bars for hair/face and not every day so natural oils would moisturize the skin). There were several tough months (its SO hard not to reach for products!!!), but my hair started growing and everything seemed to calm down. I slowly started adding more products (aloe moisturizer, then calendula soap). Its been two years and my hair is growing again (I now can color with henna), my skin is much better (I moisturize dry areas with cosmetic-grade olive oil, but rarely use soap, and do use some makeup). Last year I found out I was also allergic to dairy, so I've ( ... )

thank you. i've been slowly trying to eliminate stuff from my cleansing routine - it's hard because singapore is hot and i feel dirty if i don't wash my hair daily - it's gotten so i'll wash my hair at night so that in the daytime at least i won't flake so much because the shampooing aggravates the skin. the next thing is the diet (i'm pretty sure i'm allergic to both diary and chocolate - or perhaps just the diary IN chocolate, but it's so haard, i love my chocolate so, sigh.)

do you use olive oil on your face or just your scalp? i've been thinking about that but worried that it'll be too greasy.

and thank you, it's good to know there's some hope, somehow. :)

Also try Jojoba oil--it's even closer to your natural sebum than olive oil.

i actually have jojoba oil, but i'm not entirely sure how to use it. how do you generally apply it?

Drop over to VIllainess.net, Brooke created products because she had problems with eczema.
There's a contact link on the site, ask what she would recommend for facial care.

I found myself kind of disappointed with Villainess' Whipped, although the soap is great. But on my eczema spots, the Whipped didn't do much of anything, and if it was really bad, it actually stung. It was the plain kind, too, no fragrance to mess it up.

:( I'd have to second this. I adore Brooke's soaps, but I don't find the Whipped! moisturizing at all...

I have not had the nightmare that has to be eczema on my face; however I get it on my scalp sometimes and I always have it on my hands and the bottoms of my feet. I have had moderate luck with the Healing lotion from Heaven and Earth Essentials for the not so thick and scaly places; it is a light feeling lotion/cream as well, maybe for your face you could try this?
I have to use A&D Ointment on my feet all the time.

HAEE has also introduced an Emu oil moisturizer that is supposed to be wonderful; jojoba, shea, coconut, cocoa, aloe, grapeseed, flaxseed oils and butters do nothing for me, nor does the wonderful Brooke's goodies.

I have been told that these skin issues are also related to our immune systems.

oooh yes i'm told that emu oil does wonderful things for eczema, but unfortunately i've not been able to find anything that's reasonably priced and will ship to singapore. actually reasonably priced is not a problem, it's the shipping that's the problem. but i think i might be able to get HAEE, yay!

(well i have hypothyroidism, and i developed most of my scalp and face problems during the period while i was undiagnosed and feeling ill all the time. that might have something to do with it?)

Hypothyroidism is nothing to take lightly, that could be part of your eczema issue.
Overuse of Antibiotics are suppossed to be a killer for the immune system too. I think my Dr.'s when I was a child probably added to my dilemma.
My next purchase is the Emu oil goodies too.

Let me know how you do. I am hoping for good things.
