Someone once pointed out to me that the problem with politics is that we let lawyers become politicians. That means that people who have trained to find loopholes and adjust truths to accomplish objectives are working the lawmaking process.

I don't know that I agree with the lawyer thing, but I think this is a great example.

But really, is it any worse than a filibuster?

I mean, pretend for a second that abortion has nothing to do with it and it becomes just another tool for badgering the opposition.

Just another article supporting my position that this kind of crap is just another tool in the arsenal of a lawmaker trying to get his agenda through.

It's not worth waxing philosophical. This is the machine. This is how it works. I wouldn't bother stressing over it, because it's not going to change anytime soon.
