I hear that one. Far too many people think that if it is sunny outside they will be fine. We have a point half way up the lane to the ponies where you move from bright light to overgrown, high-banked, lane and especially in bright weather it is pretty much impossible to see a horse and rider in the dark area from the light unless they have hi-vis on.

ARGHHH. I hear you. My BIGGEST pet peeve when it comes to horse-riding - well, that and people not signalling/thanking drivers. The stupidity of it is just beyond me. Urgh. I am well aware that a flourescent tabard is not the sexiest of outfits: but how sexy are you going to look when you're lying in the road with a dead horse? Jesus.

Somewhat uneasy on this one; the highway code does say you must be able to stop in the distance you can see to be clear - generally in a court case, running into the back of anything means you *will* lose as a result (irrespective of what you run into).

Yet - although the driver is generally held to be at fault, there are cases where the compensation has been reduced because the rider (this is mainly a cycling thing) wasn't wearing hi-vis despite there being no legal obligation to do so.

The over-riding issue is, of course, to stay as safe as possible.
