I guess when I do what folks would call soul-searching, I'm usually seeking to understand myself in order to learn how to cope with the world around me based on what I find out about myself.

Here's a sort-of related post I did on the topic:

I'm struck by how many TV shows, books, comics, movies, etc. casually use the soul as if they know what they're talking about. For example, Angel is the vampire with a soul. Spike goes and gets his back. What does that mean, exactly?

What if we have not one soul, but many, bound to one body? Perhaps a soul is a group of spirits, temporarily wrapped up into one package in time and space. There's a spirit of music, one of determination, one of pleasure seeking, one of philosophy, one of love, one of selfishness. When a body dies, the spirits scatter, taking what they've learned (or not) and forming part of new souls in other, new people.

Perhaps, rarely, a person can truly change and eject one of the spirits from their soul, or bind a new one floating by. Perhaps after death all the spirits scatter but one, who can't move on.

Perhaps, after everything, the spirits will coalesce, forming one unimaginable soul. Forming God.

I think the beauty of the soul is that it is bigger than our shoebox words to describe it.

I think.. We have to experience, and love. That shows us our souls.
