His nose twitched, picking up on the scent of chocolate. Turning his head, Logan caught sight of her, sitting at a little table outside, pushing little dots of color around. Stalking up behind her, Logan peered over her shoulder, noting the neat piles of candies. “Whatcha doin’, kid?”
“Logan!” Marie squeaked the way she did, looking up at him with her big eyes. “I didn’t even know you were back!”
The corner of his mouth quirked up. “Yeah, well, I’m here. And,” he poked a finger at the table. “You didn’t answer my question. Whatcha doin’?”
“Oh, ah.” Her cheeks colored, and he could smell her start to sweat, her temperature rising, the rate of her heartbeat increasing. “Um, eating candy?”
“Uh, huh.” Logan took a couple of them from a pile, hearing her faint hiss. “What?”
“It’s.” Marie pouted, looking way younger than Logan knew she was. “I…have a certain way of eating them.”
“Yeah?” Sitting across from her, Logan grinned. “Lemme give you some advice - the green ones don’t do shit.” At her blank look, he cocked his head. “You know, the rumor? About green M&Ms?”
“No?”
“Oh.” Damned if he was gonna explain it to her, either. “Well. Never mind.”
“No, Logan.” She kicked him under the table. “What is it about green M&Ms?”
Oh, hell. Well, best way to do it was just tell her straight out, right? Glancing around, making sure none of the little tattle tale group was hanging around, Logan leaned his elbows on the table, meeting her eyes steady. “Well, there’s a rumor that says green M&Ms make you horny.”
Marie blinked once, then again, then her eyes widened as the implications sank in. “But they don’t, right?”
“Never did anything to me.”
“Too bad.” Marie studied her piles of candy, sweeping most of them into the palm of her hand. “I could use a horny friend right about now.” Before he could react, she was on her feet and sauntering away, and hell if she wasn’t putting a twitch in her ass that’d make a dead man notice.
“Hell,” Logan growled under his breath, grabbing the rest of the candy. No way could he let a challenge like that pass him by. “Hey, kid! Wait up!”
