iber: "The Republican party itself is definitely going to be in a position of reform, and will see the rise of the new generation of Republicans. It is very possible will see Sarah Palin at the forefront of this movement."This is something not everyone is talking about, as it's all Obama-mania at the moment and tension, tension, tension ( Read more... )

Very well said. Obama seems to be a shoe-in this time around, and if he doesn't win then I'll be thoroughly shocked. When and if he does win, then I think the Republican party will have to change a lot. Most of the country isn't satisfied with Bush's reign and they now associate McCain with him, and if Palin is serious about becoming President, then she's going to have to make changes. It'd benefit her more to change these things, although I would think it'd be a difficult road and one that she's going to willingly take if she wants to be President. Well, the future holds many things. Just a few short years before now no one thought it'd be possible for a black President and now look at Obama. He's so close to the White House, he can taste it.

Thank you. :) I, too, will be shocked if Obama doesn't win. A lot of people (at rallys) keep saying it's exciting and a historic moment, and while what they say is emotive and not about policy, I do think agree with them that it is both exciting and historic. Of course I agree with (most) of Obama's policies or I wouldn't be supporting him. But to my black flatmates, having a black president is such an important thing. In a BBC report an elderly black man at an Obama rally said he could remember a time when "dogs were set on black voters".

It is a historic moment, but one has to concentrate more on his issues and not just cause he's a person of color. Wow, that is pretty old >.< lol but I would think for him it's a very big change and very historic.

I agree with that, because it's the same with the female candidates as it is with the black candidates. Like voting for Palin just because, as one fellow LJ-er put it "she has a vagina". We don't want to elevate a minority (just because they are a minority) over better qualified candidates- and watch them do a bad job. I don't think that will happen with Obama, fortunately, but I think he'll have a hell of a tough time trying to clear up Bush's mess.

I once read in a comic book...One of the characters (who happened to be a former US president) said that no matter who the president is, they're always the worst president there's ever been. Which has certainly seemed true over the last bunch of presidents there've been.

Me, I just hope Obama wins. Otherwise it's Rise of the Rednecks all over again.
