For Someone More Worldly Than I

Could someone help a poor girl who took Spanish all through school and tell me the correct way to pronounce  "Victoire?"  It's bugging me that I can't say it in my head...

Thanks in advance, francophiles!

question, victoire

Would the "r" be strongly pronounced? In my head, it varied from being thrown away completely ("Vik-twah") to being really subtle.

fleur would say it "veek-tuoh", is as close as phonetically possible, i guess.

anyone else would be fine with "vik-twar" as said above and the 'r' being pronounced pretty strongly. as much as in the word, um, word.

^I think she means that because she took Spanish, she doesn't know how to pronounce French properly.

My grandmother, who is extremely French (dear god, I wish I could understand her better), pronounced the name as VEEK-twahr.

I've been saying it like that to my friends and they just stare at me because I'm trying to pronounce it RIGHT so I put on an accent for a split second... dear me.

Yeah, what other people said. Though I thought I would mention that the French pronounce their "r"s like an H with a roll, so it's not really silent... but it's not really pronounced... VEEK-twa(hr) is how I would put it. :)
