There's a pale young man out back of Milliways, leaning against a tree by the lake with a cigarette and a contemplative expression.

He would be entirely amenable to company.

In fact there are two pale young men, though the latter is pacing about a little way down the shore and considerably less well-at-ease.

It's not been long since the disaster of a conversation with Strat, and his mind keeps going back to it, playing over the fact that the man might be searching for ADAM right now. Maybe he'll find it, maybe he'll find Alex again and give it to him.

But Alex knows where that train of thought leads, and he tears himself away before he can get lost in it. He doesn't want to start seeing things again, or hunting for the stuff that'll kill him. He just needs to last until Milliways unlocks its door, and then he can find Sof and ask just how she plans to help, because he needs he hopes it involves more plasmids some serious help.

He forces himself to stop pacing, but still tears up grass with his trainers as he watches the play of crimson and blue that the moon isn't casting over the water.

--Jesus shitting Christ. As soon as Sherry's teeth start to grow, Alex is dodging away, throwing out his hands to fire off a cone of ice crystals. If Sherry pounces before the ice emerges, well, he'll still have a lot of hefty spikes to deal with.

Showing fang only takes a split second, and crossing the distance between them does not take so very much longer, even correcting for Alex's dodge.

He does not, however, bother to avoid the minor weather disturbance.

His mistake. The ice freezes him in place, horrifying grin and all.

Alex's first instinct is to run. But what happens when the guy thaws out? He was so fast. He'd catch up in an instant. His mind goes back to Mirror Lamb, and how freezing her didn't solve anything because she just thawed again, she just--

Frozen things smash.

The thought occurs to him and he doesn't give it time to circulate. If this guy thaws, Alex will die. So he shoves at the ice man with his shoulder, knocking him down onto the grass.

He doesn't break. It'll take more than that. Alex draws in the icicles and stares around him for a rock.

It comes into his mind that what he's doing might be murder. But in the mess of fear and anger, self-defence and plasmid-induced decay, the thought gets lost.

There are no cinderblocks good-sized rocks, but there are trees. And with a hefty stick he snatches off the ground, he begins to thrash at the fallen statue.

Hairline cracks begin to mar the ice.

Before Alex can do any serious damage, the ice thaws.

The instant Sherlock can move, he does-straight up off the ground and into Alex, tackling him and pinning his wrists above his head.

Well, that failed horribly.

Alex kicks him in the crotch.

Alex gets a faceful of snarling fang for his trouble!

When the first flush of pain fades, though, he's laughing.

He frees one hand to wrap around Alex's neck and licks the side of his face.

Alex shrinks away from the snarling fang with a noise of horror! Unfortunately he's already on the ground, and there's only so far you can shrink with solid earth at your back.

The noise of horror is repeated, with added disgust, when Minus decides to get his lick on. Again, he's reminded of Mirror Lamb (it doesn't take much): not her actions exactly, but the sheer sexual glee she seemed to take in tormenting him. It feels almost like two different Alexes are reacting at once: the addict, who wants to fall back excitedly into the memory of so much splicing, so fast; and the person in the moment, who's only more frightened, and chokes and flings out icicles and brings his newly-freed hand around again.

"Hold still," he suggests, giving Alex's throat a squeeze. Humans and their breathing are so very conveniently vulnerable.

His breath rasps, and he can feel fingers digging into the flesh of his neck. But his hand's already completed its half circle, and the cone of frost spirals out again, encasing Minus in ice.

Alex shoves up against the statue to dislodge it.

And keeps shoving, increasingly frantic as his lungs struggle against a vaccum. The vampire's fingers are lodged around something unbudging and painful in his neck. His lips buzz and numb and his feet kick at everything in reach.

When he thaws, he is laughing uproariously.

He lets go, the better to tear Alex's shirt open and bite him, low on the angle between neck and shoulder.

Hopefully Alex will have learned his lesson about when not to freeze an opponent.
