That is really awesome that he does that. I know I personally get weirded out when people open the door, but that's because there is no de-facto standard anymore. I sit there 2 seconds before I get to a door sometimes with a man and think, "is he getting it? Or am I? Am I going to look like a dork if I grab the door first? Who grabs the door?" and oddness ensues, hahah!
The getting up and down from my bathroom entrance would make me feel a bit fr00ty, but still. the gestures sound sweet, and wonderful.
And because he does his own thing and doesn't let the rest of society to color what that is for him (IE, their lack of manners) I find that must have been refreshing in and of itself.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels akward about who should get the door! Haha. I always feel like such a goober, and usually just grab it. I mean, really--I have two hands. They work perfectly. But to some men this apparently just isn't right. And my fiancees mom will actually stand there beside the door until someone opens it. Guess it just depends on the person!
The standing up whenever I left the table thing was really akward feeling though. Especially because we were just in a casual bar/restaurant. I think I would have felt less weird if we were in some fancy place.
You're right though, it was quite refreshing to see such a show of manners. I think it helped that he's in his 50's, so he was actually raised during the generation where manners were taught.
