Hmm, the only really cool thing about the generally rather disappointing Batman: Gotham Knight is that David "Steel" McCallum plays Alfred. That and the first segment was quite nifty I suppose. The rest... pretty mediocre and not a patch on The Animatrix which it was essentially emulating. I was really looking forward to it as well.

At least Kamen ( Read more... )

I haven't watched this yet but it didn't look very good to me (too much style over substance). But then I didn't really like Animatrix either.

It's not nearly as varied as The Animatrix. It's a bit sludgey and samey with quite weak stories that some lovely animation in parts does little to really compensate for. The other main plus point about is the return of Kevin Conroy to voicing Batman/Bruce Wayne - he of course voiced the character in Batman: The Animated Series and its follow-ups.

I'm only a few episodes in, but it's completely awesome. Tendou's like a live action Kamina.

Bread and I have been trying out a lot of toku stuff recently, and Kamen Rider has settled on being our favourite franchise (although he has substantially more history with it than I do!).

I'm a big newbie when it comes to toku, though. I've watched all of GARO, got up to date on Kamen Rider Kiva and have started the previously-mentioned Kabuto. Now me and Bread are trying to decide which series to follow together next - BLACK, Agito and Faiz all had pretty bitching first episodes so it's a tough decision.

It's worth a try if you're interested and it's not without redeeming features (lots of pretty pictures, Conroy back as Batman) but I did find it quite disappointing, yeah. It lacked the wow factor I was really hoping it'd have.
