"The phoenix or the egg. Which comes first?"

Yes, another entry so soon. I have a lot to say tonight innit.

1. Deadwood. Oh god, Deadwood. My distrust of HBO series (a lot of them tend to get vastly over praised by UK TV critics) meant that I put off watching this for quite a while and I'm kicking myself, because this is the most astonishing show. The only way I can best sum it up is "if ( Read more... )

big finish, tv: a game of thrones, tv: deadwood, tv: super sentai, tv, tv: leverage

3.) Yay! Glad you're enjoying it and that I'm not the only one who's dangerously hooked... The more I watch it, the more I get the feeling that all the character stuff is the main point, not something that happens round the edges of the plot, which I love. I also love Christian Kane's hair a great deal. (I must admit to not having noticed the music, particularly, but then I rarely do for some reason. Oh well, I expect this is helping me like it more.)

6.) Frostfire's framing story makes me a little sad for Vicki, but the main story is so good. I listened to it in the dark and it was lovely and spooky. The Time Meddler is great fun! I cannot wait for my CD of The Suffering to arrive - Jac Rayner is such a good writer. And The Mahogany Murders did a great job at extracting all the bits of Talons that I did like. Jago and Litefoot are a fab team!

3. I agree, the characters do entirely seem to be The Point. It's the same reason why I watch Bones, although that does have the added bonus of the crime stuff actually being semi-interesting. Stargate Atlantis is another example!

6. Yeah, the framing story was rather sad. When she starts almost regretting her decision to stay behind I got a bit upset and I haven't even seen/heard The Mythmakers (which I should probably rectify because it sounds fab). I think I might buy The Suffering blind - that it's a double-discer and has both Steven and Vicki narrating makes it very, very tempting indeed, especially after all the good reviews it's got. I can't wait for the forthcoming Jago and Litefoot series, because they really are a totally fab team, yes!

The Companion Chronicles seem to getting steadily more awesome. I can't wait for Nev Fountain's (The Kingmaker!) forthcoming Peri one, especially after Jac Rayner said how good it was in Vortex Magazine.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who isn't too keen on Talons - it's strange because I ( ... )

That's good to hear about Bones - it's been on my rental list for ages and now I'm looking forward to it even more!

The Mythmakers is great, though it does suffer from being a recon - there's a few bits when it's just an entire screen of text because some of it is very action based.

I didn't know Nev Fountain was writing the Peri CC! Excellent.

I reckon you'll almost definitely enjoy Bones. Temperance Brennan is just one of the greatest female leads ever and there's lots of lovely quirkiness and surprising bone-related facts that I find morbidly fascinating.

I must admit to never having watched a recon in my entire life - I tend to listen to the BBC audio releases with the narration instead, because I'm a bit lazy, but I do think I should probably give them a try sometime. I really wish that so much of season three hadn't been junked (same for season four, which I think looks better than the more formulaic season five), because it looks like the most interesting of Hartnell's seasons by quite some way. I'm sort of vaguely excited for The Gunfighters whenever that gets a DVD release ( ... )
