I think the difference between Dick and Lamb for me is that Dick's behavior feels very mindless, there's not much malice behind it, it's just what he's learned since birth that he can get away with because he's rich (this also applies to Logan to a great extent), but Lamb's cruelty feels very studied, very precise and targeted specifically at those he knows can't retaliate.
Personally, I wish we could go back a year so they could fix the things they did wrong with the rape storyline (not having Veronica and Duncan talk about it ever, not having Veronica have any sort of problems with it, making Beaver the EEEVILEST because he raped Veronica), but now that we're stuck with this, I kinda feel the need for Veronica to acknowledge something about how it's affected her and probably continues to affect her.
I like the way you phrased that, that Dick's behavior is very mindless. He's just sort of exploiting the power that comes with being rich, white, and male without really meaning to. As opposed to Lamb who's actually very calculating in exploiting his position of power. Plus, I guess with Lamb it's an actual, recognized position of power, not just a societal one. I don't know, I'm sort of talking this out for myself.
but now that we're stuck with this, I kinda feel the need for Veronica to acknowledge something about how it's affected her and probably continues to affect her.
I get where you're coming from with that, I do, but every time I think I should just get over it and enjoy the dramatic consequences, it makes me angry again. I think it's one of those fool me once situations, you know? I'm afraid to get invested again because what if they leave me hanging again?
Oh man I really really want to see Science of Sleep. Anything with Death Cab and Everlong hands in the trailer is right up my alley :). Did you go see Science of Sleep by yourself? I totally would have gone with you. I was just in my room cleaning, trying to tackle my damn closet, hehe.
Aww, poo. You had your door closed and I wasn't sure if you were doing the quiet-Ashley-time thing or not. Plus, I was in a really weird mood yesterday, as I'm sure you could tell. I still kinda am, I guess. Annnd, I wasn't sure it was something you really wanted to see.
But hey, how much are you working this weekend? We should go see The Departed.
quiet-Ashley-time-thing??? Heather! Have you met me? hehe, i don't need quiet time. I only shut my door when i'm sleeping/cleaning/or listening to music/watching tv/movie so the sound isn't too disturbing since i often put it on loud...all easily interruptable :P But it's all good. I understand if you wanted Heather alone time.
unfortunately, i work all weekend :( I might come home Saturday night though instead of staying there all weekend (my sunday wedding starts later in the day). so if you hear someone coming in at 2 am...it's me, not a robber :P
Yeah, I know. I'm sorry. I was in a really weird mood yesterday and I think I was afraid you'd say no and I'd feel stupid and then not want to go by myself, so I just went. :p I don't know what's up with me. Maybe it was better for me to hang out with myself for a little while.
Anyway. That's cruddy. We should go next week during the week or something. Think the boy would miss football for a movie on Monday? Or we could go to a semi-early showing on Wednesday. Whatevs. :)
Far-fetched? It's one of the most famous psychological experiments EVER EVER EVER. Do a Google for Zimbado and/or Stanford Prison experiment and you'll see the absolute mountain of information written about it, subsequent versions of it, reasons why it's just so totally and utterly unethical, etc etc. And then, unless you know all about it, check for the Stockholm Syndrome, and you'll see just what Neal was doing at the end.
Other than that, I liked the pot storyline, except for the ex machina ending.
No no no, I know about all that. I meant far-fetched as in, no one would ever be allowed to do it again. :p It's far-fetched for the writers to think that the audience would believe it could go on.
It could concievably be run today, under very very very strict guidelines. However, I feel that the ethics boards in TV land are a lot more lenient than those here in reality.
Well, this is my thinking. A lot of really stupid things seem to fly in the VM universe that wouldn't in the real world, so maybe it's best to just assume it's some sort of alternate reality where Homer Simpson is a sociology professor. :p

Plus, could you really say no to Homer Simpson?
