actually (lol I got overexcited there) but Regina Mills makes sense and I love the backfiring of the curse and the eternal hunger and how the heroine in the original myth grew so bitter from her own narcissism that she hurt her--pinching Regina's cheek like that from the beginning when she's hungry just....
wow, that's the perfect set-up for her from the beginning and so on. I'm actually loving this so much and Regina's relationship with her father who did not protect her or really step forward, it's like...a natural thing since there is still a bond there.
but her hope for a new life...is kind of sad considering the context, and she took a fair bit of flesh and blood to begin it.
i know in my head what happened in this version of rapunzel but i kept it open for a reason - because i love that shit, you know that, and because i do want to write regina/emma a tiny post-curse oneshot because the bunny is already eating away at me, and that would be a tiny part of it and i don't want it spoiled.
but it's been fascinating to me to see how regina's hair styles change through the show - and how snow's hair has changed between ft land and storybrooke - pretty telling that in regina's ideal world her hair is short and extremely modern, and that snow's has been cut so short as well, to its extreme. and i'm always so absolutely fascinated by hair in mythology and fairy tales, i'll be honest, <3 and the relationship between regina and henry was so tellingly fucked-up, and i think he was a fucked-up guy who tried when he was younger but never dealt with his issues so they followed him and possibly his wife and clearly his daughter as well. i left his wife nameless as well for a reason, despite hearing about that regina
( ... )
THIS IS GIVING ME ALL THE FEELINGS IDK WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF.
I love how you set up Regina's emotionally stunted relationship with her father from the get-go. It's all give and take, and with this we have some understanding as to why. Plus, brilliant to have Regina as the daughter that just wouldn't be conceived. Really sheds light on that idea of her being burdened since birth.
Idk, this really aroused a lot of Regina emotions that have been building for the past couple of months, lol. Love this just as much as the companion piece! :)
And Regina gives me all of the feelings, it's horrible, because I cannot describe the ways that I loathe this show and yet, ALL OF THE FEELINGS, SHE GIVES ME ALL OF THEM.
Rapunzel was always my favorite fairy tale after Rumpelstiltskin and with how they've shredded my feelings for that, it's... not a surprise that I had to write this out to get it out of my system because Regina is ALL OF THE FEELINGS EVER.
This is wonderfully done and gives a very nice insight into Regina's character. It explains why Regina is the way she is and why she treats her father the way she does (and why he never has anything to say about it).
