Gosh, hon, this was excellent! I really enjoyed this. You captured Rand perfectly here, bringing her into full focus when the scenes you touched upon could actually be the sidelines in the new Trek movie. The ending and their bonding just ties the story up nicely, even though I do find myself wanting more.

AND THANK GOD, THANK GOD, YOU DON'T THINK I'M CRAZY.

It originally ended with her all super!okay and it did not work, especially since her whole further development through the Scotty/Uhura oneshots and the K/S... thing tells that story. On top of that, three large sections had to be cut out because they became their own fics or ended up being a part of the K/S fic instead and then didn't fit because they missed the whole 'she's in a holding pattern' idea of her story in here.

What killed me, though?

The fact that we know so LITTLE about her even in Prime verse - so I relied more than anything on her quirks (even in Prime universe, she had that 'think on her feet' instinct that makes her way more impressive than a lot of people seem to get) and tried to, like, just poke them with a stick until they made some kind of sense. Screw you, canon, she was totally Sulu's first officer and one of his BFFs, :-(So. It's Rand, concentrated, still incredibly awesome but rougher around the edges just like the others in this ( ... )

And, yeah, she's an almost-main in this universe (and she plays a clear role in two of the things I'm currently writing in said universe) so she'll consistently pop up in pretty much everything I do with it. Nothing else is ready to be posted yet but she's always going to be around, ♥
