You really nailed it and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen.
A gem of a piece :)

And yeah, there really isn't enough fic out there for her - and what is out there is sort of... aggravating, :|

The ending part makes me sad, but the last line of this is gorgeous

I came away from the movie with a complete certainty that she was incredibly strong even if she's been through a lot, which is what I wanted to show here - always carrying all of it but still managing to go on anyway because it's who she is.

Can I just say how much I love to stumble onto a fic with a non-neglectful, not depressed and horrible Winona? 'Cause they are getting to be such a cliche lately.
I love the way you have her keep going on for her sons, and the imagery of watching the sky throughout. I think a lot of writers forget that in this timeline Winona Kirk was in Starfleet and she must have loved space. You are an amazing writer and this is just beautiful:)

In the TOS novels, Jim's mother is dead by the time he was 15, and I wonder if the new movie parallels that idea. Maybe she isn't even alive by the time he is acting like a hellion?
Plus as a working mom, I don't equate Winona being off world for her job as being neglectful or a horrible mother. As a modern woman, that is insulting...

Thanks so much.
I wanted to show how completely damaged they both were, and how it built up despite the fact that they did both try, and how they keep going anyway. And the fact that just that resiliency ends up being something that connects them more than people would think because the SHARE that quality. Again, thanks so much, :-)

Tragic, but still strong.
This is exactly what I was trying to bring across so hearing this comment is really wonderful, :-)
I bookmarked your fic, btw, will be reading when I get five minutes to do it.
