I love that entire sequence with Dawn in this episode, and this in the one I'd point to for those who criticize MT's performance on the show. This is devastating - even the scene of her in the bathroom crying over a boy has me in tears, because I know what's coming (her tears now are trivial in comparison but she doesn't know that yet), and she really conveys how that seemingly trivial embarrassment really does hurt to a teenager.

Word, MT is stunning here. I really have no problems with her acting in general, though.

My first experience with BtVS fandom was at the ATV Club, and there was all sorts of Dawn hate (and in other places on the 'net.) I don't know how common the feeling is, but I was fascinated by the ideal of her and gradually came to really like her character and the actress. It's unfortunate that they didn't do much with her in S7; MT had apparently asked to have her role written a little older (More appropriate to her actual age) and she grew into the role so beautifully in just the small bits she was given.
